    This flying seems awfully expensive...

I earned my PPL in 2020 and wanted to buy a plane, but fortunately I have access to a club that has 4 Archers and 2 Saratogas. So scheduling hasn’t been a big constraint. Mostly weather and family schedules are the only limitations since I don’t yet have my IR. I flew about 40 hours last year...

    2023 aviation goals

Actually achieve my previous 2 years’ goal of earning my IR. At least I’ve started IFR ground school and plan to take the exam in Q1, then finish before the end of ‘23. And continue flying more than in ‘22; only 30+. Lastly, make at least 2 trips outside of Texas. Made one to Louisiana this...

    NOTAM: Missiles inbound

I listened to the audio, and I’m not sure the broadcast was very useful. No indication of altitude or heading of the “object”. Obviously if you know the general direction of North Korea and your bearing to that, but without an altitude and bearing not sure what you do other than be alarmed and...

    Comfortable Ownership?

Reading this thread made me want to calculate how much I’m spending per year flying through a club so I could compare to owning my own. I’m flying about 35 hours per year in strictly 20 year old Archer IIIs, and spending about $8000 a year. So comparably less than owning one myself and have the...

Crazy lady attacks seaplane in Halibut Cove, AK

I’m just waiting for someone to come in here and defend her actions. So I’ll go ahead, maybe she was trying to stop those Airplane Repo guys, or thought someone was stealing the plane… <sarcasm disclaimer>

    Night Landing Tips

All the above. When I see the tire marks, I begin the transition and looking down the runway. I still land higher and longer, thus don’t do much flying at night. I want to emphasize about reviewing the airport approaches for NA at night. Avoid those destinations at night.

    FAA delays

I empathize with all of you for the long wait. I went through this process before Covid, but for comparison I’ll give you my timeline for a Class 3 with SI for three non-HIMs related issues. >June 2019- AME exam and deferral >Sep 2019- FAA letter requesting updated test results for 2 of the 3...
