Visiting Berkeley, CA - KOAK or KCCR ?

    Maybe they need a SID there . . . "Climb via the LARRY2 departure, maintain maximum prop RPM below 2000 feet . . . " :D

Visiting Berkeley, CA - KOAK or KCCR ?

Thanks everyone for the additional feedback. I'm coming down from Bremerton, WA (KPWT) and looks like it will be the first week of October, so that rules out San Carlos. Fees at Oakland look potentially significant (thanks for the link PalmPilot, very handy!) so I'm thinking Concord will...

Visiting Berkeley, CA - KOAK or KCCR ?

That’s part of what I’ve liked at Concord. Friendly service, easy parking and minimal fees especially if you gas up. I’m suspecting San Carlos would generally be a little spendy, being where it is, so more like Oakland in that regard. Anything particularly tricky from an IFR...

Visiting Berkeley, CA - KOAK or KCCR ?

Thanks, will take a look at Hayward. I'm planning to just use BART or Uber, etc. to get to and from Berkeley, so likely no need for car rental.

Visiting Berkeley, CA - KOAK or KCCR ?

I'm planning a hop down to the SF Bay Area sometime on the next month or so to visit my daughter, who lives in Berkeley. I'm flown into Concord (KCCR) several times and am familiar with the airport, but its a bit of a haul to get into Berkeley from there. Oakland (KOAK) looks to be a lot...

    Commercial long cross abort

    Commercial long cross abort

Your mission is to make it home in one piece so your family can enjoy having you around. Yes, that cuts against the “get the job done” mindset, but a VFR pilot in the Pacific Northwest - or anywhere for that matter - has to work with what Mother Nature gives them. It’s damn tough to do if...

    Jefferson County WA (0S9)

Yep, JeffCo is a nice little airport with amenities. Often has better weather than fields further south, like Bremerton, and it’s a nice day trip from almost anywhere around western Washington.

    O69 Petaluma CA - PIREPS?

Indeed! Handy resources - although now I’m thinking about some fish n chips at Sam’s….:D

    O69 Petaluma CA - PIREPS?

O69 turned out to be a great destination. Plenty of runway, winds modest and generally aligned (unlike Gnoss Field), friendly staff and plenty of services available. $6/night for a tiedown, which I consider a reasonable (and, in aviation terms, negligible) cost to help keep our GA...

    O69 Petaluma CA - PIREPS?

Yes, I’ve been keeping an eye on that. This will be my first IFR flight down there, and it will be nice to have that capability if things get murky. I’ll find out tomorrow :)

    O69 Petaluma CA - PIREPS?

Thanks everyone, helpful info and Petaluma sounds like a good bet. Looks like it will be hot en route, Red Bluff is where I’ve stopped for fuel on past trips and NWS is showing 100 or so there on Saturday. Petaluma looks much more pleasant.

    O69 Petaluma CA - PIREPS?

Hi all - New member here. Heading to the Bay Area this coming weekend from the Seattle area in an RV-6, and looking at somewhere in the Marin area as a destination. Petaluma looks like it has plenty of services, several instrument approaches, and runway orientation much better suited to...
