    fatal crash in San Diego

I won't comment on the pilots actions until we know a bit more. I will say this though. I am based at MYF, and I was about 30seconds from being handed off from Socal to the tower for landing when they told me the field was closed. My passenger and I immediately looked towards the field and saw...

Can I legally fabricate my own panel in a certified plane

The plastic overlay on my panel isn't strong enough to hold anything more than a pen on some velcro, no way anything requiring a sign off would be attached to it. I had no problem removing mine, repairing some cracks and painting it to make it fresh and new looking.

    Donation or Air Carrier Operation?

Or more realistically have them rent/lease a plane and hire you to fly it. If you're commercially rated you should be able to answer this question yourself really. I had to answer it on my check ride.

Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

Another friend of mine traveled to see the eclipse as well and captured pretty much all of my feelings on it far better than I could have, since he's a writer and I'm not. There's no aviation involved in his article, but it's a great read...

Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

When my buddy called me about going to watch the eclipse a few months ago I honestly didn't expect it to be all that thrilling. Boy was I wrong. There is absolutely nothing a photo or video can do to express the experience fully. We studied weather forecasts and made multiple contingency plans...

Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

Between me and my passenger we called pretty much every airport within the area of totality in Oregon and Idaho, including a lot of the private ones. There are a lot of them that will be open, but most are expecting crowds. Several were taking reservations and a few were full. It sounds like...

Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

You don't think the next one will be over hyped when it's the last one for much much longer?

Anyone flying to an airport in the 100% eclipse zone?

These are the troubles of renting and not planning ahead. If it makes you feel any better most of the airports I called on monday within the total obscuration zone were already full or nearly so. Chances are your plan of picking up friends and flying in the morning of may have left you viewing...

Helicopter in Charlottesville crash had been in earlier hard landing.... And more

Lots of aircraft are significantly damaged in accidents and fully repaired. From Cubs to 747s. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions based on an incident 7 years ago.

    Retractable gear questions

Another Mooney belly view. I pull the gear pretty quick, and the tires are still stopped by the time I do it.

Solar eclips - aka: the end as we know it...

Seems like kind of a personal attack to me. Nevermind the fact that while calling me out for not looking up every bit of information before asking a simple yes or no question, you couldn't even figure out the difference between my name and my location, even with it right there on the screen in...

Solar eclips - aka: the end as we know it...

The fact that you decided to answer a simple question with a personal attack on my knowledge shows that maybe ******** is a more accurate description. Seems like you have quite the superiority complex too, since all I asked is if you had personal knowledge or not. A simple yes would suffice. All...

Solar eclips - aka: the end as we know it...

Well for one, I'm not in Dallas, I'm in San Diego, and for another I asked because there's a **** load of conjecture floating around. Clearly I knew enough to look up the airport, see its location, runway length and class of airspace. Maybe you shouldn't be such an uptight douche.

Solar eclips - aka: the end as we know it...

    1. Do you know this for a fact? 2.Class D airport with a 5000' runway isn't exactly what I'd call a remote airstrip.

    "Regional airport"

The name of an airport is determined by the people who run the airport, and it can be changed at any time for any reason. Montgomery Field in San Diego for instance recently changed its name to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. They didn't add any more executive features to get that title...
