The aircraft does not have to be moving in my installation (GDL-88 outputting GDL-90 protocol on RS-422). I see air & surface traffic while on the ground shortly after the GPS acquires position. However, you must enable the display of Traffic on the GMX-200 Custom Map Menu Option Page 2.

If you are between 1 and 2 years from the date of purchase in this case, your credit card may have a benefit to extend the warranty. Worth a look. I haven't needed it for Garmin products, but have made use with other manufacturers. Good luck either way.
