    Is this Cyclist a Jerk?

I hear you and am all for the message as well. I give out 'i share the road' stickers all the time. Which reminds me, I need to order another batch. As a fellow pedal pusher, I make sure I give cyclists space on the road when I'm driving. At the same time, I make sure I ride responsibly when I'm...

Drug testing on FAA third class medical?

Actually, DUIs are a death knell for plenty other professions. I had a friend who got turned down for a job at HP (and not as a pilot) because has one. My friends who are nurses say that they are required to report stuff as minor as parking tickets to the Board (at least in CA). Getting a DUI...

    Flight Plan Confusion

I'm confused about something that I experienced on last evening. I was a passenger on this flight between KDEN and KMLI. Everything was dandy until we were basically on approach into KMLI. We descended at what seemed to be normal, then suddenly we were going around. And around. And. Around. And...

Drug testing on FAA third class medical?

Then there're the people who habitually smoke (and/or use other drugs) who are in the upper echelons of society. They number in the thousands. Much like it certainly isn't rational to assume that anyone who drinks is a sloppy spouse-abusing drunk even though that's a rather common subgroup...

Pros and Cons of C172 vs. PA28 Warrior/Cherokee as training aircraft

Same here, I took the written months before I ever set foot in an airplane. As for OP, most of my training has been in C150/2, with only an outing or two in a C172 and never any Pipers. However, I'd welcome the chance to fly in a Piper. Or a Mooney.

    First airplane

haven't bought it yet, but i'm making it a goal to get one before i turn 30. currently 24.5, so a little over 5 years to go.

How far is your practice area ....

flying from kpoc, closest one is the santa fe practice area about 5 miles west. also have used the long beach practice area and the lake matthews practice area.

What's the cheapest airplane you ever rented?

$65/hr at my flight school for the c150/152s. they also are currently adding $4/hr surcharge to supplement the price of fuel, so the net price is $69/hr.

    Signing your logbook?

i picked up a logbook from local fbo and it has space at the bottom of every page for a signature and totals for both that page and also a running total.

    Commercial question

no, $10/hr won't cut it unless that's the majority portion of the total hourly costs. private pilots can "cost share" with passengers, but the pilot must still pay the majority of the expenses to be legal.

what materials are needed to study for Private Pilot?

for my written, my primary method of info was class. i tend to absorb and regurgitate info presented in class settings rather nicely, so it worked for me. i took ground as a class from a community college. we used the asa ground school book and the gleim. i bought the gleim, but never really...

    new pilot questions

alright, so been spending some time aloft. we've been working on spins, er, power-on stalls this past week. by the end of the hour yesterday, i'd managed to get them pretty decently while maintaining heading. but my power-offs aren't as smooth. entry usually goes fine, but then recovery gets...

    Air Force/Air National Guard Bases

true story, though. i've heard that a girl at my flight school landed at edwards back in the day after she had an engine out. not sure if it was pre-9/11 or post. she apparently had to just about write a dissertation several times over and the af told the school they had 72 hours to remove the...

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

there's always jet-a. the diesel cycle is far more efficient than otto cycle and 100ll is a specialty fuel that isn't as readily available worldwide as jet-a. the exploding economies of china and india may very well soon have a boom in ga due to the middle class population that number more than...

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

i was sitting in class today and apparently someone in congress is floating an idea to save the feds money by privatizing the controller side of the faa. if there's one thing that would kill ga for all but the rich boys and their toys, that's definitely up there. a lot of pilots would then...
