In my area, you would be on radar vectors the majority of the time. Most of the VORs are out of service either for an extended period or permanently. There are usable VOR approaches to maybe 2 airports that I can think of. Hopefully an ILS/LOC approach is available where you want to go.

That’s more or less the way I teach landings. Nail your airspeed. Identify (or better yet, set) your aiming point. I mean I know of around 30 instructors and a bunch more students just at my flight school…so there’s that.

Glad your trip wasn’t a total loss! Looks like some pretty great adventures there. My family and I were flying out (commercial) this Friday specifically for Yellowstone. It was heartbreaking to hit the cancel button this morning.

Hey, @AggieMike88. I’m in CLT and talking to Piedmont recruiters early in July. I already have a pretty fully student schedule on the 28th, but if I can swing it, it’d be great to meet up.

The school I contract with doesn’t allow solo T&Gs. The reason? Too many bent airplanes. Who’s fault is it? Maybe the instructor, maybe not. Stuff happens, but if the school feels like they want to eliminate a source of potential liability based on a history of previous occurrences, so be it.

One of your airports has to be more than 250nm from the point of origin. None of the airports listed meet that requirement if you start logging the flight from HPN. It matters not that you have a leg of more than 250nm. Now technically you could fly to ABE and make that your point of origin then...
