    My Equipment Code with ADSB?

The FAA has a doc, linked in the second post that lists the two different codes for the flavor of ADSB. This 172 has a tailbeacon and I’ve confirmed it’s on 978. Seems like a lot of codes though.

    Flight following on short flight?

In the SF Bay Area I try to get FF. I was up one day where Oakland Center was dealing with somebody who was flying too close to the ceiling and it was affecting an IFR Coast Guard flight. That somebody wasn’t in communication. If that were me I’d much rather be alerted. Coast guard was vectored...

    My Equipment Code with ADSB?

I’m not sure if I’ve got the right equipment code: 172S ADSB on 978 (UAT). I believe this is the “U-1” equipment code GPS MFD - original 2007 Bendix King Two vhf radios with nav HDI on vhf or GPS Glide slope indicator Transponder with altitude ELT I believe the code is SG/SU-1 but I’m not...

    Aviation life vest?

I assume you mean “legal”. I’m guessing that’s described in 91.509 but it doesn’t say what is an approved PFD. Putting regs aside I have some strong opinions on PFDs. The ski-jacket style helps retain body heat and reduces traumatic injuries to the chest. It won’t keep the head out of the...

    Aviation life vest?

That’s a tougher question than I thought. If boating I could tell you it’s a Class 5 PFD which means it only counts if you’re actually wearing it.

    Skip formal ground school?

I learn best by making mistakes or seeing things first-hand. I have the Gleim materials and my CFI logs ground training for things like cross country planning and navigating. I was expecting folks to tell me I need formal ground school or else I’m reckless. I’d be kicking myself if I was...

    Skip formal ground school?

I’m contemplating taking a 30-hour classroom ground school. I started training 10 months ago with a CFI as a hobby and have solo’d. I’m currently endorsed for a solo X-country but haven’t completed that yet. So I’m decent with planning, navigation, and I understand the basics of aeronautics and...

First solo XC - with a harrowing finish!

Btw, nice job on the go around. That must have been stressful and I can imagine some might have tried to force it down.
