(Comfortably) Buying a plane without a prebuy?

I don't disagree with this, but it is easier said than done when buying your first plane...in the crazy market we're coming out of...with prospective planes that are halfway across the country. I was definitely learning as I went, and luckily had some sense about how much I didn't know. So I...

Best performing Android tablet for Garmin Pilot

I'm with you. I installed a new Garmin panel and was excited to stream engine performance metrics to Garmin Pilot but learned it was an iOS only feature when I tried to set it up. If it was just the performance I could deal with it, but the feature disparity is getting tough to swallow. I'll...

    Taildragger for 1400' of grass

Sorry I don't have any practical advice to offer, but the 195 has to be the most beautiful airplane ever produced. I hope you get one someday.

    At altitude, which throttle setting?

I might be misreading the question, but if you're at any altitude (in a non-turbo plane) with the throttle pulled back, you have two things reducing your MP: the reduced atmospheric pressure at altitude and the partially closed position of the throttle plate. If the combined effect of both of...

    Best and Worst C182 Models

Just like dog owners, every 182 owner thinks theirs is the best, and they are all correct. Like others, I'd highly recommend the CPA buyer's guide. It steps through what changed each year of production. Decided what's important to you/what you're flexible on, then start shopping. I looked for...

    I've flown your airplane before.(?)

I understand all the reasons why, but myflightbook says one other user has flown my plane and I would just love to send them a message about it. It was owned by the State of Illinois for most of it's life and it'd be cool to know its story. They took incredible care of it.

    New Plane Phobia

Not alone. My first airplane is my last airplane and a large part of that is for all of the reasons you mentioned. Plus, I absolutely hated the buying process. It took about a year for me and I switched halfway through from looking for more of a starter plane to the 182s because I realized I...

Help me figure out landing lights/wig-wags

Hey thanks! Not to derail your thread but I had a fun time doing that. Customized all the placards, tail number, changed the Smart Glide icon to the correct high wing profile... ;)

Help me figure out landing lights/wig-wags

Yep, land/taxi versions of the G3s. Love 'em so far!

Help me figure out landing lights/wig-wags

Yes, the numbers are pulses per min, 'A' is alternate (wig wag), 'B' is both (all lights on or off together). I tend to keep the switch on A88 during the day or in the air at night, and switch to BOTH for night takeoffs and landings.

Help me figure out landing lights/wig-wags

I should clarify this as it makes the max pulse sound more configurable than it is. It will only alternate between the taxi light circuit and the landing light circuit. So, because I wanted the taxi lights in the cowl and landing lights in the wing tips, up/down was what I got.

Help me figure out landing lights/wig-wags

I did something similar on my Skylane during my big upgrade. Used the knots2u wingtips and WAT lights all around on the shop's recommendation. He says they've had the best experience with them as far as electrical noise goes. My plane has two lights in the cowl so I replaced both of those with...

182Q upgrade Avionics, or upgrade to 182T?

Don't know if this will help you but I own a '78 model year Q (built in Dec '77). It's a few months older than I am and I plan to keep it until I stop flying. I did the avionics upgrades you are contemplating and it is a freaking sweet airplane. I love it so much and have no desire to upgrade to...

    Aircraft Partnership

While owning some smaller percentage of an airplane is certainly better than owning 100% of no airplane, I won't be going back as long as sole ownership is feasible for me. I was in a 10 member equity club and between the constant membership turnover, "big personalities," and a bunch of sketchy...

    182Q Fuel Questions

If you're a member of CPA, they've got a pretty detailed tech note on this common problem. I have a '78 Q (O-470) with bladders, and it's only vented on the left. On a normal flight the left tank will drop to about 3/4-2/3 full before the right starts to drop. Two vents help, but these tanks are...
