Had a great view through a cirrocumulus deck that developed minutes before and made the eclipse even more spectacular in Dallas.

As another point of reference, it is nice to see that some of the forecasters at the NWS WFOs are providing an eclipse forecast in the AFD. Here's the AFD for DFW.

I've been personally attacked by DG. If you call him out for a very obvious mistake, he stands firm and doesn't want to listen to the truth. Then, some of his "fans" will jump all over you for attempting to disagree with the almighty. Instead of trying to find and respect the truth in the topic...

Don't know how long after the accident this picture of the door was taken. Given that the temps at the surface where this occurred were above 0°C, it's unlikely that ice accumulated on the door after it reached the surface. The snow around the door has a classic glaze on top indicative of rain...

Yes, that is the case, however, there was a layer from 1000 ft to 5000 ft where freezing rain was occurring. The pilot did not climb above 5,100 ft. So most of the flight was in this freezing rain layer.

It's very likely that the ice on the door was accreted after the door had reached the surface...but in freezing rain, it can cover just about all surfaces of the aircraft. The pic below was taken shortly after landing and some of the ice had already fallen off.

I've created an initial analysis of the weather at the time of this accident if you are interested. The garbled transmission the pilot made suggested he had an emergency and needed to return to the field...
