    Online resources for aircraft recognition

Thanks, I'll check it out. Specifically, I'd like to know the difference between a falcon, Beechcraft, citation , globe master .. Stuff like that. There are a lot at the airport I fly out of and I'd just like to learn the biplanes for fun.. You deHavilland, steeman.. Etc

What I mean is, I don't carry the book with me.

    Online resources for aircraft recognition

Anyone know of any good sites or apps that will improve my aircraft recognition? I have Jane's aircraft recognition guide and a few other books as well but I find myself searching the web when I have downtime and I would rather put my free time to better use. I'm especially interested in...

    The costs of flying

Welcome! I am not as experienced as some of the other fine folks on this site but I am a hard working student so here is my take on the situation: Flying is expensive, there is no way around it, paying $ 65.00 an hour for CFI and.. at least $120.00 for the airplane is bound to add up...

Does RPM refer to the prop or the engine?

ah... man.. so, I guess I had it backward? Maybe I came to the conclusion by rationalizing it but I thought a higher RPM meant less time for the charge to take place in the cylinder and that would result in lower MP?

Does RPM refer to the prop or the engine?

    Haha, not yet!

Does RPM refer to the prop or the engine?

Thank you very much! Those articles were very helpful!

Does RPM refer to the prop or the engine?

Whew! Thanks for clearing that up guys! What I meant is.. When not in use, atmospheric pressure is registered on MP gauge. When the engine begins to run and the throttle is decreased, the manifold pressure drops. The RPM setting is associated with the amount of times the engine...

Does RPM refer to the prop or the engine?

I'm having a bit of trouble piecing together information I read in the Jeppesen PPL, Rod Machado, Gleim and the Private Pilot ground school textbook. I thought that the RPM set referred to amount of revolutions of the prop but perhaps it is that of the engine as well? It makes sense, the...

    Memory aids for weather?

Okay, good to know. Maybe it was just that one situation where his little rhyme had any relevance. I feel pretty confident about the basics of weather.. high pressure vs low.. but it's the deciphering or "predicting" that stresses me out. Of course, I felt the same way when I started with...

    Memory aids for weather?

Very early in my exposure to GA, I remember hearing 2 pilots talk about the weather conditions right before we went up; they predicted exactly how the ride would be. After we landed, I asked the pilot how he knew exactly what to expect and he spouted off some sort of memory aid: " If the...

    Class A airspace / "FL 600"?

Thank you all so much! I meant post my appreciation earlier but things have been bananas at work. Thanks again for explaining it so simply!

    Class A airspace / "FL 600"?

Thanks! Is this some sort of equation I'll need to know how to calculate? I don't see any other mention of FL ( or, at least not yet. )

    Class A airspace / "FL 600"?

Hey again, I've just moved on to Airspace Classification, and I'm getting kind of caught up on the definition for Class A airspace. I understand the airspace extends from 18 k MSL... but I don't remember reading or learning about " Flight Level" What exactly is FL 600? I've scoured all of...

Ever feel like you don't know enough?

Ok, so I just read the article and I think I get it but, this is what's hanging me up: If a fluctuation in MP is an early sign of engine failure, isnt it because the governor sets the RPM ti a constant speed? The RPM shouldn't change.. the prop pitch should. Or, am Interpreting the info...
