    Locating the runway

As a student pilot, I find it encouraging to know even experienced pilots can find it challenging to locate their desired airport/runway. My instructor made me feel like a miserable, hopeless failure when I failed to spot a small airport on the outskirts of our metro area. I was almost on top...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Training for Sport Pilot, close to solo with 40 hours. Sounds like a lot of pre-solo hours but half of them were 2 years ago--that gap in training is not good for progressing in one's skills, especially at age 58. Wish I had done this years ago, having a blast.

    Holding altitude, heading and airspeed

Training for SP in a SportCruiser. Having trouble holding altitude and heading. Airspeed, too, during maneuvers. I think I need to make greater use of trim and to focus more on the horizon and landmarks (ground reference) instead of the instruments. Any other suggestions for helping...

Why do CFI's Discourage Sport Pilot

I am a SP student, at 58 y.o. I want to fly and getting a 3rd class medical, while achievable, will be a hassle for me. I am happy to get started with day VFR. Maybe I'll decide I want something more; THEN I will jump through the medical hoops. I want to be skilled and proficient. I...

    Frugal flying

It is so hard to find out anything about the J170. Everyone seems smitten with the J230! But the larger bird does not have adequate useful load for two real-sized Americans plus reasonable baggage for a long weekend (2.5-3 hrs of flying per segment). The 170 offers a truly useful load. Now the...

Looking for good CFI for Sport Pilot in DFW area

------ When I was flying with US Sport, there was a shortage of aircraft and the chief instructor wore too many hats to be attentive. The young CFI he then put me with was too quick to take the controls instead of providing verbal instruction so that I could make corrections. They followed no...

Looking for good CFI for Sport Pilot in DFW area

Thanks, Mike. Have you had a good experience with Ron's flight school? I have heard that their focus on foreign students--those working for ATP status--dominates their behavior such that individual SP candidates are sort of forgotten. Anything to that?

Looking for good CFI for Sport Pilot in DFW area

Thanks, Bill. I have flown with these guys out of KADS and, candidly, the experience was not satisfactory. That was a few months ago; is your experience with them more recent? Have you been pleased?

Looking for good CFI for Sport Pilot in DFW area

Can anyone recommend a good CFI in the DFW area for SP training? In case it makes a difference in your thinking--I am 56 y.o. and have a few hours of LSA training in my log book. Not yet solo'd. Thanks!

US Aviators Flying Club, Denton, TX

I'm not a member but would like to attend, if that is appropriate. I live in the area and am working on my SP certificate. Kindly let me know if my attendance is inadvisable.
