    Buying a new airplane

After owning my 182A for over 8 years it's time to pass her over to a new owner. The 182 is under contract & should close within 10 days or so. I'm a little sad to see it go. It's been a good reliable airplane. With the STOL kit it made a great towplane for the glider operation I used to...

    Cub Crafter prices

I don't intend to bash Cub Crafter airplanes. I've instructed in them & admit they are a hoot to fly with spectacular climb performance & docile slow speed handling. I'm in the process of selling my straight tail 182 & buying a tailwheel airplane built by another manufacture. Just for grins...

Any regrets moving up to better plane

I guess I'm kind of moving sideways? I put my 182 up for sale & am buying a Husky. I'll miss the 182 but will have more fun in the Husky.

1983 Learjet 55 Out to Pasture in Montana

I learned to fly in Livingston. It's always windy there. I'm grateful to have learned there & not dear the wind.

Sell my airplane now or wait

I'm curious why you said that? It appears you're a tailwheel guy. One of the reasons I would trade to feel more tailwheel proficient. I do some tailwheel instruction including in a Cessna 180 but would like to feel more competent.

Sell my airplane now or wait

I've owned my 1957 182 for nearly 9 years & really like it but I don't fly it very often because I'm a chief flight instructor & don't fly recreationally much anymore. I've found an airplane that I'd like to buy that I believe I'd fly more often for enjoyment. My 182 is valued at $130,000 & I...

Cherokee 140/180 and Cherokee 180 high altitude performance?

The 140 & 180 have the same airframe. Your post implied they were different. Hershey bar Cherokees are NOT great high altitude performers.

    Three Strikes...

It was recommended to me by a fellow pilot. After 52 years of flying & presently a full time CFI I think everyone should watch it. I have lots of night hours but still don't fly at night unless necessary. I also teach mountain flying. It can be done safely once you full understand the...

Unbelievable Offduty Delta Mechanic notices GA Maintenance Issue from the Ground

I've just always thought that I was red, hot pilot thus red on my side. Silly but it's worked for 52 years of flying.

    Hilariously wasteful charter flight

I was flying for a company under contract to the US forest service. I usually did fire patrol but when I arrived to work one morning I was handed a small envelope to fly to Troutdale, OR near Portland. I said "this must be very important" & the dispatcher replied "No, since it rained all night...

Anyone lose it and keep it off . . .

I've had the overweight issue most of my life. In December I went in for my second class medical & my blood sugar was slightly higher than normal. That scared the hell out of me. I cut the carbs, walked at least three fast miles a day & took off 40 pounds. My blood sugar is normal now...

What's the best way to start instrument training?

I so agree with this. "We'll start upon successful passing of the knowledge exam". I say to any new applicant. I've had several students go to other CFIs because of this self imposed rule. I'm fine with that. I recently had a gentleman come back to me because he didn't feel like he was...

    Air-to-Air Cessna 180

Call me old fashion but I like the looks of smaller tires better. I've been instructing in a 180 & had the student remove the big tires because we are on pavement. It's so much nicer to land now. We'll put the big tires on when he's ready for some rough field landings. Beautiful pictures &...
