    I have a 530W and a 430W (cross-linked), and I typically use the 430W as either a dedicated traffic scope for the ADS-B, or have it on terrain at night, second comm for atis, ground, etc. Plus its a backup GPS fully integrated into the G5 HSI, so could use for Enroute, LPV, or ILS if needed...

    This is interesting and not entirely clear. my reading of this seems to indicate you could at a minimum have an A&P sign off on a G5 SW update since an A&P can install a G5 vs other equipment that must be done by a Certified Repair Station.

    Upgrading to a IFD440 from a 430 will be easier as well since the tray and backplate are identical. Moving to a 650 would require more install hours.

    I’m having a G5 hsi installed replacing the dg, it will interface with a 530W, the existing GI-106A will be moved to interface with a 430W as a #2 NAV. The other cdi I have will be removed.

    I’m currently getting a G5 hsi added to my existing G5 adi, which I presume requires an update to software to match. I’ll ask the avionics shop whether I can do updates myself in the future.

    For the $1800 they will also check the unit and update the software / firmware if it’s not the latest already. You’ll also get an updated 8130.
