    Buying a plane at auction

Well, I'll probably get yelled at for this, but, Question 3 triggered one of my pet peeves. Auctions are not a competition and when I buy something at auction I don't feel like I won anything, I just bought something that I thought was worth the money to me. When you make it a competition, and...

Thinking about a Military 5-ton Truck

Earlier in this thread Ted mentioned that he doesn't see very many of these trucks on the auctions. I live about 150 miles west of Ted in the middle of Kansas and not too far away from Fort Riley. There are many of these trucks in my area that have been adapted to farm use. A local repair...

City sales tax applied to cyber Monday purchases incorrect

The issue of sales collection on internet sales has been under discussion in the Kansas legislature since the 1990's. They still haven't figured out how to fairly accomplish the task. Consider where I live in a small central Kansas county. We have a population of less than 3,000, four towns...

    Air-to-Air Giles at Oshkosh

Talk about coincedence. Just met the owner of 1210Y at Salina yesterday where the IAC is competing this week. Very nice gentleman and a very cool airplane.

    DuPuis Family Cobra Build

Ted, I'm curious about the rockers being out of alignment. There should be guide plates for the pushrods, were they there?

    Thinking about a Bulldozer and/or Backhoe/Excavator

Ted, Check out purplewave.com. It is an online auction site with lots of construction equipment. Also bigiron.com might have something.

    Debate: 182 vs Super Viking

Here are a few numbers for comparison purposes. I am a 150 hr PPL and currently own a PA28-180. I have a complex endorsement and 47 hours in a Beech Sierra. Currently my insurance runs about $700 for 45K hull value. I wasn't really looking but recently ran across a very nice Debonaire that...

What did you do your private training in?

7 hours to solo in a C-150, another 10 or so hours in a Cherokee 140, and the rest to PPL in a Beech Sierra. The Sierra belonged to the Beech Flying Club in Salina, Ks -- $16.00 per hour wet. (1977)

    Tiedown spot options?

Perhaps some math revision is in order. The slab would be 324 square feet which at 4 inches thick is 108 cubic feet. At 27 cubic feet per yard this equals 4 cubic yards. Still at .66 cubic feet per 5 gallon bucket, it would take approximately 164 buckets. (a five gallon bucket is actually...

what rpm is tach time set to?

So, I was just thinking about this a little while ago. I took a short hop today and my comparison seems to be just the opposite of Salty. My flight today (Cherokee 180, cruise at 2,400) was 1.3 on the hobbs and 1.12 on the tach. I'm on a small grass field so I don't spend much time taxiing or...

    Flight training near Hays KS

    BasicMed

My 3rd class costs $140 out of pocket, no insurance involvement. My AME told me that his malpractice insurance will increase $900 per year for Basic Med, even though he is already an AME. He thinks most GP's won't be interested in doing it. I'll probably stick with the 3rd class.

    Which Twin?

Many years ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I spent about 18 months working on the final assembly line building Dukes (and pressurized Barons). I can't believe everyone has dismissed them to quickly, after all, the Duke would be the sexyist looking plane on the ramp!

    First post here

A little update. I'm not sure I'm completely over the nausea but I have flown a few more time and things went well. So well in fact that I now have a current BFR and am current and legal. It took about 12.5 hours and I'm not sure if thats a little or a lot after having been away for so long...
