    Clearance in the air

Depends on the airspace. Called in the air once with NY TRACON from a satellite airport on a clear and a million day and got an earful. In general though if you can safely depart it’s a good option to have.

    Checkride complete...

Congrats. With the oral if you have a good score on the written and breeze though their initial probing in the oral I think some DPEs figure they’re comfortable knowing you know you’re stuff... the only question at that point is can you fly for real so they just quickly move into that. Some...

Tell your congressman to make registration data private

Register the plane to “Stop Being Nosy LLC, DBA Go Away” and have notices sent to a local PO Box. Problem solved.

    Just wow

Deeply disagree with the Cirrus pilots actions and it looks like he likely violated a few regs in the process. There was no indication the PIC required any intervention and the Cirrus pilot just got in the way and gave some really bad advice at critical points in the landing approach. Great job...

Indian AF fighter bird strike on takeoff

Every time I’ve been to India on the flight in we’ve had to shoot the ILS. It was “clear skies” but the smog was so bad that visibility was usually only a mile or so. It was gross.

    Heli crash NYC

Why does your non-IFR aircraft appear to have a label-maker printed placard (bottom left) saying to turn off the strobe lights upon entering cloud? ;-) Just curious, not trying to make a fuss.

    Heli crash NYC

Flight was actually already banned over Manhattan in the area in question because of the TFR around Trump Tower so clearly more “rules” restricting flight in that area wouldn’t have prevented whatever unfortunate series of events unfolded yesterday.

    Heli crash NYC

Unclear but the city is rainy and misty at the moment with clouds lower than the building tops. Building is also smack in the center of the Trump Tower TFR so unclear why a helicopter would be there. Will just have to wait for the details on this one.

    Chart management?

EFB, although I print out paper plates for the key ones I think I’ll need on a trip. EFBs can and do fail or have issues. Paper doesn’t yell at you because it’s getting too hot because you left it sit on the seat for a minute in the sun while doing other things!

    91.119 Minimum safe altitudes: General.

If it’s one day a year and it really bothers you maybe just take a nice day trip somewhere for the day?

FlyBlackBird.com: Yet another desires to be the Uber of the Skies

This will likely quickly get shut down soon. Rent someone your plane so they can claim to be just hiring you to fly them in their plane? Creative, but no.

"Spoofed" N-number -- who ya gonna call?

I wouldn’t worry about it. Likely just ATC typing in the wrong N number for someone on flight following.

    Flying below Class C

ISP shouldn’t really even be a class C given how quiet it is, but I digress. The general airspace is busy though and others dive below the shelf too so never hurts to call them for advisories.

Using X-Plane 11 VR and VATSIM for IFR Practice?

I assume you mean 8GB. If so that’s not all that small. While more wouldn’t hurt if you are looking to have multiple monitors and such then that’s really the realm of the video card and GPU, which is what’s doing the heaving lifting of drawing all those images.

    Surging Noise Complaints

You usually have to dig a little deeper and those numbers fall apart. I’ve seen some airports where it’s 1-3 homes that basically just go nuts and file thousands of complaints a month. Usually these are people that buy a house next to an airport and then are massively offended that airplanes...
