    I have no words...

That's just the site I was looking for, thank you! For anyone interested here is the Kathryn's Report version. http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2017/04/cessna-310h-n1099q-fatal-accident.html

    I have no words...

Just curious what another good resource for NTSB reports would be, besides sifting through the original report yourself? Is there some other "news" style site that has an article associated with a report?

serious question...regarding chutes and medicals...don't laugh.

But then you could only fly with "certified" passengers. It would add a whole other rating!

    Why no IMC at night?

I'm fairly low time IFR wise, but I don't think I would make a blanket statement for no IMC at night. I would definitely be more cautious, and wouldn't go past my personal minimums. But if you can get down to VFR, with a good margin below you, or the destination is VFR, I wouldn't be too...

    tips for communicating

To add to this, they have a website as well. Liveatc.net With radio work, the best advice I got was "Ask questions!". If you're unsure of what ATC said/meant, ask for clarification.

Please tell me I'm not the only one...

I've been flying with DC's for about four years now, and I'm really happy with them. Would like to upgrade to a nice ANR set soon though, the DC's can get heavy, and clamp down on longer flights!

    EFB compatible GPS

I think you can learn the fundamentals on an iPad, or other EFB, as long as it isn't your sole means of navigation. Going through my training though I used the iPad only for charts, and I didn't want my GPS position overlaid on the approach plate. I figured I should know how to figure out...

    EFB compatible GPS

I didn't start using FF, until well after my private. When it came time for instrument, I only used it for basic charts, and plates (No GPS overlay, on the plate). I think it helped me gain a better understanding of the fundamentals. Speaking for the GPS puck though, I have the XGPS150A, and...

    NA Space travel basics

I took a course in astrodynamics, and that game really does put some of that information to practice!

    VFR only airports....IFR plan?

I would assume though, that a VFR only airport, would have no approaches, and no ODPs. So taking off, you would be on your own until ATC could see you. Am I wrong in assuming that a VFR only airport would have no ODPs?

    VFR only airports....IFR plan?

Taking off in IMC from a VFR only airport, would be similar to departing from a regular airport with weather below the approach minimums, right? You can depart, but you can't come back.

Pros/Cons of Joining the Civil Air Patrol?

Each cadet gets a little over 10 hours over the course of their membership. Five in a 182/172, and five in a glider. They also have access to nations activities that provide more flight time, and exposure to aviation. I don't know the percentage that get their private through it, but am I wrong...

Pros/Cons of Joining the Civil Air Patrol?

I'm feeling a little defensive, only because I have been an active member, and 80% of the people I know in the organization are great people, and are using the program to give back to the community. As far as the USAF budget is concerned, CAP is a very minor portion of that. On the order of tens...

Pros/Cons of Joining the Civil Air Patrol?

CAP planes can't go up without prior approval (A flight release) from someone on the ground. No flight release officer would approve the flight knowing a non-CAP member was on board. Aside from that CAP is the reason I was able to get my private pilots certificate and instrument rating as a...

    Fresh Ticket

Thanks! I've been reading through old posts here studying up for the oral, and am glad to have it behind me. We're supposed to have some clouds Wednesday, so I'm really keeping an eye on it.
