    NOTAM access (other than pilotweb)?

Thanks for the pointers to the XNOTAM stuff. As with many FAA projects, its moving forward, but not complete enough to get real use out of, yet (to be fair, that probably characterizes most projects -- FAA or otherwise). There is an existing XML feed via AIDAP, which one can get after jumping...

    NOTAM access (other than pilotweb)?

JCS specifically disallows screen scraping, and indicates it is for use by DoD only.... While I'd assume they don't care if one casually uses the site for GA purposes, I don't think it will work for me. Certainly, all these query engines & graphic representations have a _source_... where is...

    NOTAM access (other than pilotweb)?

I'm looking for a (free) source for NOTAMs, other than DUAT, AOPA and FAA's Pilotweb (pilotweb.nas.faa.gov). Essentially, I'm trying to retrieve raw notam information for further processing & display. This would support flight planning, as part of my website, maps.AvnWx.com. (How can I suggest...

    ATP Knowledge Test Practice Exam

try www.prepware.com (part of ASA) You can login using demo/demo and get any number of free 10-minute tests. These are a great way to cover lots of questions since the questions are randomized. (Try the test every day). www.prepware.com also sells full blown tests online, which you might try...

    Youth Headsets

My daughters (7 and 12) use David Clark Youth H10-13Y. My wife can also wear it for short flights, if I take out some of the padding on top of the head. Plus they're upgradable as the kids grow. -Peter maps.AvnWx.com

    Google Earth formatting

I wrote some code to grab data from a cheapo gps and generate a KML file for my flights. Works great and you can "fly" the result. (I don't use .igc format) I'll post an example file as maps.avnwx.com/data/sample.kml since it's to big to post here. Essentially, it consists of two basic parts...

    METAR/TAF within a radius?

maps.avnwx.com -- exactly. Shows METARs and TAF, PIREPs and Winds Aloft within a radius of an airport, or within x miles of a route (try "OAK-SBA" for example). PIREPs now include pictures of reporting airplane type. Also outlines TFRs, AIRMETs and SIGMETs. Also highlights stadiums TFRs based...

Bay Area airport to use for new home base?

don't forget to look across the Bay: Hayward would be close to Mt.View. Plus, if you're generally flying East (where most of the land is...) you've driven under most of SFO's Bravo. Oakland's a bit further north & not crowded from a GA perspective. Good weather, expensive 100LL :D

    Abbreviations?

For weather abbreviations I can help. I've spent a lot of time translating reports. My website displays both translated and non-translated information specifically because you need to know the abbreviations since you'll continue to run into them. See maps.avnwx.com. I've also provided before and...

I forgot my yearly TFR Warning

when i was working with FORTRAN 20+ years ago, it was particularly suited to super-computing. Cray XMP had a great vectorizing compiler, which could take advantage of FORTRAN and create really fast simulations. C, on the other hand sucked eggs because the language allows greater flexibility...

I forgot my yearly TFR Warning

If you think FORTRAN's bad, try Javascript. The TFR, for those of you who prefer it visually, can also be seen on my website: maps.AvnWx.com?address=ABQ -Peter

    Another Cool Aviation Weather Site

bad-a** weather site ...I like that. Thanks for the compliment. I should have 45 minutes of NEXRAD animation up within the next few days -- good news is it looks great; bad news is that it'll consume more of your browsing bandwidth. Also working hard on clouds (both visible and IR for...

E6-B alt correction versus AIM 7-2-3 cold weather errors

Kinda... I mean close enough for flying, but... Using standard formulas and a spreadsheet, I can build a table very similar to the one in AIM using sea level as the assumption, so thanks for that hint. There are a few numbers which are off. For example +10C 5000' above sea level airport...

E6-B alt correction versus AIM 7-2-3 cold weather errors

Consider: E6-B does altitude correction, which corrects indicated altitude to true altitude, based on non-standard temperatures. Also, AIM 7-2-3(d) refers to altimeter errors when the temperature is extremely cold, without regard to pressure altitude. (E6-B uses pressure altitude.)...

    Very Awesome Weather site

Thanks -- I love watching the weather cross the country & see the sigmet's light up & metar symbols go red. To that end, I'm exploring adding a 'history' feature, allowing you to go back in time (likely no more than 24 hours or so). Keep you posted.
