Got to agree with that. I almost blew my checkride by failing to use landing checklist. I use them all the time every time now.

That's a lot of money to flush. You've come this far so why quit now. Find a small non towered airport outside of the busy airspace and get your ticket there and bring the other stuff in gradually. Me too, I have no problem being in the plane but climbing a ladder makes me feel very uneasy. When I was younger being on a ladder, roof or any other high place wouldn't bother me. I figured it has something to do with age.
