    American Declared Emergency

The 777 is just the airframe. It sounds more like an engine issue.

Can a 747 go supersonic in level flight?

Engineering types (and those who fly commercial airliners), I pose the question. Can an airliner reach supersonic flight, level with pure thrust? And would the aircraft be controllable under such conditions?

    A Case for VFR Advisories

Didn't realize it was a mil-only type deal until you queried me. :D

    A Case for VFR Advisories

Hazardous Air Traffic Report. I googled to see if I could find a link, but it seems it may just be a military thing. It's a report similar to the NASA ASRS form where you report hazardous situations such as the one described above. It's supposed to be for improving the national air traffic...

    A Case for VFR Advisories

Might be a good idea to fill out a HATR for that incident.

    Practicing Emergencies in the Recliner

Yup. I was solo in a two ship doing a formation takeoff, and I took a bird down the number 2 engine at rotation. The boldface in the T-38 is THROTTLES - MAX, FLAPS - 60%, AIRSPEED - ATTAIN SETOS MINIMUM. Before I could even think about what happened, I'd already checked the throttles in MAX...

    What does a "pushback" entail?

    a bit different

CFIs should teach Private Pilot candidates to not be afraid of >20 degrees. Thirty should be the min. Why increase your belly-up time? What's the added danger?

    Why don't you fly aerobatics?

Not many people smoke anymore.. That's kind of a dead habit in the air force among fliers.. a lot still dip though.. Gets your blood pressure up, so g tolerance - not really.. Hypoxia, yeah, but you're still on an O2 system, and a lot of fighter guys (including this one) go 100% O2 before an...

first flight experience and a couple of questions

I've done the civilian dogfighting programs. They got me interested in being a military pilot. First time I did it, I puked in the plane.. on the ground.. on the drive home.. it was misery thereafter, but it didn't discourage me all that much. I've never been sick on anything since. A...

    Why don't you fly aerobatics?

It's been several years since I've flown either, but it just seems like the -38 and T-6, while pulling fewer Gs, would get to the G much quicker than those aircraft. It's both. With a rapid onset, you have to be on your AGSM more quickly and then hold it for extended periods of time. The...

    Night landing at unlit field...

Yup! That would be my criteria as well: NVGs, Covert Lighting, a HUD and Radar Altimeter.

    Why don't you fly aerobatics?

I've flown the S-2A and a Giles 202, and from what I remember neither have a very high G-onset rate, at least not > 6 G/sec.. Could be wrong though, and I'd be interested to see that number if anyone has it.. I googled, but no luck. That's horrible for G-tolerance, but the dude obviously knows...
