Proceed direct to an airport other than your destination?

I filed IFR from 05C (chicago area) to KHFY (indianapolis) via LUCIT and FOVRA. I was cleared to HFY via RV to LUCIT then direct. After I got airborne, I contacted ATC and was told to proceed direct Terre Haute which was 124 miles south of my departure airport and 60 miles west of my...

    AV-30C heading problem?

Ok the AV30C does not have an "inbuilt" magnetometer. Doesn't matter what serial number it is. Don't believe me? Call Uavionics as ask. What IS inside the later units is something called a magnetic sensor which is not to be confused with a magnetometer. All the fuss is because the vast...

    AV-30C heading problem?

I'm looking forward to the reviews posted about the exp. version of the magnetometer. I really hope it is the cure. The AV30c I installed in my Grumman drifts 35 degrees in 30 minutes. My last flight was interesting. I reset the DG while on a direct route back to my home airport. It was a 30...

    uAvionix announces external magnetometer

There is no internal magnetometer in the av30. It is a "magnetic sensor" (per uavionics tech support) which doesn't seem to do anything. They are aiming for certification for the external magnetometer spring of next year.

    Used avionics supplier

I've bought several avionics off ebay with good results. Only one bad experience out of 8 and ebay forced the refund for me.

    UAvionix AV-30-C in Cherokee

I did. I also scrolled down in other publications and read how the problem was fixed with firmware updates and internal sensors. I have emails from them assuring me that the problem was fixed and then offered 5% off if I buy two.

    UAvionix AV-30-C in Cherokee

Interesting point you make. They know there is a problem with precession and yet they are telling perspective customers that the problem is fixed with the 2.1.2 firmware update and the addition of a "magnetic sensor". I have emails from a certain individual from Uavionics stating just that to me.

    UAvionix AV-30-C in Cherokee

What good is an autopilot linked to the heading bug of an AV30 DG that processes 35 degrees in a half hour?

Too bad there's no way to make the GPS heading adjustable so we can offset it for magnetic variation.

Unfortunately, the new 2.1.4 update does not address any DG drift issues. Description of the new update. AV-30-C Software v2.1.4 implements the following changes: Fix GPS waypoint and data rendering issues Enable BeaconX transponder functionality Enhance transponder annunciations Fix...

    UAvionix AV-30-C in Cherokee

I wonder how many firmware updates have been announce to "improve performance in DG mode" there has been. I know of 3 myself. I really want to like these units. The precession is the only thing that keeps me from shouting it from the rooftops. Maybe the 2.1.4 update will make a difference...

    UAvionix AV-30-C in Cherokee

My experience on the 2 AV30s I just installed in my aircraft. Latest firmware and magnetic sensor installed. First flight rendered a DG drift of 40 degrees in 40 minutes of flying. The precession was about the same for both AV30s but in opposite directions. After some research I found that...
