    cfi renewal

Right. But he’s asking about CFI renewal, not GI.

    cfi renewal

If you want something "practical" for renewal, you can take a checkride for a new CFI rating or take a checkride for one of your existing ratings. I'm sure you've already read the CFI ACS which has a chart of tasks for renewal/reinstatement rides.

    cfi renewal

That's not quite how it works. Although there is something in the works to change it, currently CFI certificates expire. Renewing via FIRC is not just getting a graduation certificate. It's completing an 8710 renewal in IACRA so the FAA renews your certificate.

    cfi renewal

:yeahthat: @Tools, if you look at the back of your CFI certificate, you will see your aircraft ratings are "Airplane Single Engine" and "Airplane Multi-Engine," not limited to "Land" or "Sea" like a pilot certificate. For example, if you have a CFI-ASE and a commercial ASES, you may teach in...

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

I think you need to read Appendix 7 of the Instrument ACS and FAR 61.45. Edit. ...or fix a typo :D

With the new ACS rules, is GPS alone sufficient for IR?

More true if you limit equipment to VLOC than if you limit it to RNAV.

    First time solo in IMC

That’s a good thing. I mentioned training for the rating but AP overdependence causes issues for rated pilots as well. It’s the subject of my latest IFR Mag article (subscriber paywall on this one). (Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I love autopilots!)

For Sale DO you still have a Garmin 496, 396, 296?

I sold my GPSmap on eBay 13 years ago when I bought my first iPad. So a charger won’t do me much good. OTOH, since a GPSmap may have saved my and my wife's life, one of those might be worth nostalgia value,

    First time solo in IMC

You are spoiled :D. I did my instrument training in a 172 with two VOR receivers (one with LOC) and an ADF. My first solo IMC was a week after getting the ticket. 1.3 total, 1.0 actual, 0.8 night, ILS approach to 550 AGL. I’m being tongue in cheek about “spoiled,” but I do think there are...

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

Flight schools lease aircraft for business reasons. What difference do you think it makes from an FAA standpoint?

Metric hardware for these Euro LSA's

Most any hardware store has metric screws. I’m sure any aviation supplier has them too.

Sea plane landings - who governs the water ?

I think you'll discover it's not about what you do in the air but what you do on the "ground." To paraphrase you a bit, "When in the air, an is not subject to local police rule, and when it's in my back yard, a trespasser."

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

...because, after all, what does that look like?

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

Here's the reg. This is for leases. There may be other rules about information which must be supplied, such as in fractional ownership programs under Part 91, Subpart K. There may be one but I'm not aware of any specific number of leases which raise the FAA's attention. It wasn't mentioned by...

    Lightspeed headset brain holder

I’m demoing a headset that has a simple loop attached to the brain so it can be hung wherever there is something to hang it on. I tossed a suction cup hook in my flight bag I stuck on the window if needed. interesting solution although the $1.25 for a dozen suction hooks is very non-aviation :D
