    Cheers to Dr Bruce

About five years ago, I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Bruce and his wife for dinner, along with several others, at Schaumburg Airport (06C). He's a nice guy here on the boards and an even nicer guy in person.

    Maybe next time. :)

What's the best argument for owning a certificated aircraft?

That's exactly my point. The repairs should have been and were pretty straight forward, however, the facility that ultimately built the replacement horizontal stabilizer would not install it because that would have made them responsible for the integrity of the structure it was attached to...

What's the best argument for owning a certificated aircraft?

The most significant problem I've seen with (current owner not builder) experimental aircraft is finding someone to perform airframe repair. I have had two acquaintances (non builders) who had major problems finding someone to repair their RV'S that had sustained weather damage (separate...

    Crosswind Muse

“Crosswinds Take Care of Themselves” Almost 18 years ago I took my private pilot check ride with a DPE, a recently retired airline captain who at the time actively flew everything from Cubs to captaining a B-17 on tours. On completion of the examination, as we taxied back to the FBO at the...

    Gleim Instrument book

I don't know what the current Gleim material is like, however, I used the Gleim manuals for the private, instrument and commercial written tests. Used other reference sources as appropriate to learn the material. The lowest written score was 94 (commercial) didn't study as much, which is to...

    Parachutes for acro

Sean Tucker had to use his parachute six years ago. Control system failure. Don't recall the specifics at the moment.

    Personal milestone...

Ryan, Nice video. This is the student you told me about today. Very nice job. Also, I enjoyed flying the Cub with you today. The last time I flew one (last winter) it was on skis and I have a feeling the next time I fly one (a month or two) it will be on skis also.

    Citabria fuel vent issue

Dan is correct about this. I have a 2001 Citabria with a similar situation. I just got off the phone with American Champion and their first suggestion is to check the filler cap gaskets. If they are cracked or no longer seal completely this could be the source of the problem. If they are not...

    What are you flying?

We've had a few issues over the years (radio, carburetor, paint etc.) but it's still fun. My wife wouldn't let me sell it if I wanted to.

    What are you flying?

Citabria because it's fun to fly. Added accidental bonus, my wife likes it too. For whatever reason, she feels more comfortable in the Citabria than riding right seat in a 172. She loves the visability, "her" space in the rear, and the "cool" factor of owning a taildragger. Moving into the...

    How far to your plane?

52 miles, about 1 hr. The upside is, it's possibly the best and most active GA airport in the midwest (C77). Lots of interesting aircraft, actvities and people.
