Actually it makes perfect sense. The gdl 69 is a receiver only that transmits info on the unit - xm weather for example. I am not an expert at the exact verbiage however. The ads-b is also transmitted through an app, either iOS or some other platform, on the display through this receiver...

That’s the receiver required for the ads-b to be shown on XM display. But in essence you are correct
