    CFI question

Hi Jim, no questions are stupid. You do have to work with a CFI for the flying (you have cheaper options on studying for the written). Google 14 CFR Part 61 and check out the aeronautical experience and knowledge experience for private pilot (or sport or recreational). But there may be...

    IFR Written

I use ASA Prepware successfully. Two practice tests over 80 and you can submit them to get an endorsement via email. Doesn't substitute for discussion with CFI, but it's good for the memory work and official endorsement. ASA has apps for iPhone and iPad, which I find useful. Don't know what...

    Spin recovery

The Rich Stowell material is great. I didn't know slips reduced the potential for stall/spin. Also the video showing different types of spins - money experiencing that would be well-spent. I see value in primary students learning spin entry/recovery because there's nothing quite like the...

    Training Sessions

Thank you! Great observations in each post here. Taking "short" work to build a little experience sounds pretty appealing, especially as long as I'm still working a full time job. Lisa

    Training Sessions

Hi all, I haven't posted here in a long time, please forgive. Too much worky work. I'm working toward a CFI, and I'm thinking about lessons plans and training sessions and all such things. For my personal edification, nothing else, I'm interesting in learning about gaps between curriculum...

    First akro experience...

First spins were in a C150 during PPL training. Ever since I got the really big surprise of that first windshield full of Mother Earth, I've believed each student should experience spinning and recovering to take the teeth out of their fear. (Plus, many of us agree it is fun.) First real...

    Just when you think....

This afternoon in North Texas the weather cleared up. I had planned to fly but all my usual flying partners were out of pocket so I went alone. I'm about 18 hours into instrument training, but haven't done any simulatated instrument time in a couple of months. So, I got on Center's frequency...

    Studying for the IFR Exam....

I went through the King DVDs and I used ASA Prepware to study the questions in each subject area and take the practice tests. It seemed to be a really good combination of products for my study habits.
