What is a good handgun for self/home defense?

I've got the same one. The extended magazine makes a world of difference. Though I practice with and without. I keep the extended mag when it's at the house, and use the shorter one for hiking.

    Contact Approach or Tower?

Followup from another newbie. Looking at my New Orleans sections, I see similar information blocks, such as contact Pensacola Approach within 20NM on XXX.XX. Now is that within 20 NM of the class C bubbles, or 20NM of the airport itself?

Need CFI with 182 near KROA

Question from a noob with maybe the same issue down the road: what happens if an accident were to occur during those 5 hours? Is the insurance valid with a CFI, just not valid solo until that hurdle is passed with that endorsement?

    PPL training schedule sanity check

Plus 1 on that. Also chair flying. I do this just about every other day or so while jogging or doing something that doesn't take complete concentration. Go through the maneuvers in your head, go through radio calls in the pattern, radio calls to request flight following, radio calls to FSS...

I would like to share my flight journey so far

I'm no expert myself, but I can tell you that it does get easier... or at least more familiar. And looks like you're flying at a good pace, so you should be coming along nicely. Not familiar with RADE during the run-up. What does that one stand for?

    Written Test Was Sixty....Three Questions?

I wouldn't have a clue which ones were the test questions. They all seemed pretty close the study bank that I had been using. And officially, I am not divulging any information obtained from my test sessions to any outside parties as per FAA regulations. But what what is their number...

    Solo Cross Country Went Well

Congrats! I've got my solo xc planned for Sunday. Hope it goes as well as yours did. I'm thinking it's "easier" solo than with the instructor, as you aren't distracted by someone else in the cockpit (my instructor does a great job trying to distract me with his wonderment of the prisons and...

    Written Test Was Sixty....Three Questions?

Ahh makes sense. Thanks guys. Of course I don't read the fine print. I might need to start...

    Keeping student XC stuff organized

I recently did both day dials and the night dual. I use the sectional, folded to an area reasonably larger than the route of my trip, even if it doesn't follow the factory creases, and use spring clips to hold it. Then I fold that in half to make it manageable, keeping my current position...

    Written Test Was Sixty....Three Questions?

Just a quick one for you guys and gals. Just took (and passed) my private written. But everything I read and heard said to expect 60 questions. To my surprise, 60 came and went and the "submit" button didn't come until the 63rd. Luckily the two missed weren't #61, #62 or #63 so it didn't hurt...

First XC is Tomorrow... Any Advice

It was the long XC. Not sure why we did the long before the short, but I suppose it doesn't matter as I have to do both anyway at some point.

First XC is Tomorrow... Any Advice

Feel free, Dodge. I like to read about other XC experiences anyway. The more I read, the more I learn. Glad yours went well. I saw SC in your previous post, but didn't realize MTP. That's awesome. My wife and I moved to FL in April from Summerville. I love Charleston, wasn't much of a fan...

First XC is Tomorrow... Any Advice

Good piece of advice too. So here's how it went down in a nutshell. Last night I checked out my various sources of weather and called for an outlook briefing. Got up early this am and called for the abbreviated briefing mainly to get winds aloft and see if anything new popped up. Briefer...

First XC is Tomorrow... Any Advice

Nope, this one is dual, so I def have my instructor to lean on, only if needed. I'd just like to not need to. Good call on the distance between checkpoints. Hadn't thought of that, but, duh!

First XC is Tomorrow... Any Advice

Thanks for the advice thus far. Stay ahead of the game, and bathroom breaks. I like it. I have a rough diagram of each destination airport on it's respective leg's nav log, with all frequencies, including the expected approach frequencies. No such luck with Foreflight. My instructor wants me...
