Absolutely! I have done overhauls on 4 of my Lycomings, and assisted with several others. Pretty simple, but there ‘gotchas’ that your auto engine experience won’t help with.
Need at a minimum Lycoming service manuals and parts manuals.

This. A friend went down this route…. Purchases all of the hardware, but it had to go back to STEC to be checked / programmed. The fee for this and the STC at the time was 50% of the new cost.
By the time you pay to buy the stuff and STECs fees plus installation it is a losing proposition.
I am personally a big fan of the in-ear headsets (I use the CQ1 from Card Machine Works Headsets from Card Machine Works). I was an old-school David Clark kind of guy, but purchased a CQ1 for my wife so her hair didn't get messed up. I now have one for myself. They offer different tip sizes so...

Barbed is fine. The fitting on the SureFly end is a barbed fitting, and the STC installation instructions reference a barbed fitting on the engine side.
