    Operations into controlled airspace

I've never heard the tower in C or D say "N123 you are cleared to enter..." My point is, if you are waiting to hear those words, you might find yourself waiting a long time before the tower checks back and asks your intentions.

    Operations into controlled airspace

So who is confused: me, or the people that say you need clearance to enter C or D? I didn't think I was confused until this conversation started! LOL

    Operations into controlled airspace

I'm having a friendly debate with a couple of people regarding requirements to enter, specifically, Class C and Class D airspace. They say I need "clearance" to enter. I say you don't ask for clearance, and you won't receive "clearance." Here's my discussion points, pulled from the FAR...

Thank God I got my PPL 2 months before I turned 60! Had I waited, I probably would have been too old!

Soloed today.....and blew the nose wheel.

I was doing my check ride and made my first landing...short field, which the DE complimented me on. Turned off the runway and taxi'd back to departure when the plane starts shuddering. I stop, DE sticks his head out and says I have a flat nose wheel. "It's these damn Chinese tires" he says...

Soloed today.....and blew the nose wheel.

When I was training, my instructor had me do the pre-flight. When I got to the nose gear, I thought the tire pressure looked low and pointed it out to my instructor when He came out. He looked at it and said it was fine. I started up and began taxiing out when the flight line guy from the...

Slips on Final - A Question

I think it's all about maintaining a stabilized approach speed while executing your forward slip. As stated above, the yoke is forward. You have to have the yoke forward to control your pitch and maintain your approach speed.

    Why recreational pilots suck

Nope. Just saying, even "great" pilots, or those who think they are, are fallible. The danger is not so much in a pilot who knows his limitations as the pilot who believes his skill exceeds his limitations.

    Why recreational pilots suck

Not long ago, on one of those sunny days with calm winds, I was in the run-up area testing the mags when a pilot in the pattern made his call over CTAF to turn final. At about the same time, the plane holding short in front of me - piloted by one of those "badass" high hour pilots who will...

    Checkride Horror Stories

I required two airplanes to complete my checkride. After completing all the practical exam maneuvers, my DPE told me to head back to the field and do some landings. He started me out with a soft field landing, which went without a hitch. Taxiing back to the departure end, the plane suddenly...
