    Piper Malibu mayday over Oklahoma

Landed on the numbers is maybe not the most accurate recount...he was carrying some extra speed to bleed off, aimed for the numbers, and held it just off the runway until it settled in. I really don't know exactly where he touched down.

    Piper Malibu mayday over Oklahoma

It is a 1985 or early '86 Malibu with the Continental 550 upgrade.

    Piper Malibu mayday over Oklahoma

The pilot is a good friend of mine, and my instructor for private, instrument and commercial. He called me at 4:45 and told me about it. Lost the engine with no advance notice...appears to be a thrown rod. He did an emergency descent due to the pressurization loss and smoke, and landed right...

Pilatus PC-12 down near San Angelo,TX

A friend sent this to me last night. It appears to have gone down while flying an instrument approach into KSJT. Conditions in the area at the time were overcast with ceilings around 1200 AGL. Not sure of exact tips at the time, but when I checked earlier in the day, the tops and freezing level...

Complex/HP insurance for low time private pilot

I own a 2002 T182T that is insured for $350k. I tried to add a friend of mine who is a new pilot with 88 hours total time. We were denied by every insurer...they wouldn't even insure him with a big number of required dual hours. The insurance market has definitely tightened up, considering...

    Learning a Turbo

Two things: I have found the POH numbers in my T182T to be optimistic about fuel flow. Mine burns more fuel than what they publish. I would not be comfortable operating a turbo Lycoming lean of peak based on fuel flow or EGT/TIT without a good engine monitor (and probably GAMI injectors)...

    Learning a Turbo

I also own and fly a T182T...a 2002 model. I now have almost 300 hours in it. My CFI (who had a lot of turbo 182 time, and who I still fly with a lot) taught me to take off and climb with full throttle, and the mixture and prop full forward. I like to cruise climb at 95 knots, and I keep...

    San Antonio Airport/FBO recommendations wanted

Excellent timing…next week I’ll be flying in for a conference at the Hyatt Hill Country. It looks like Kelly Field would be closest to the hotel. Maybe a little more red tape, but any reason not to fly into there?

District employee using school plane for vacation

This is really an unfortunate situation...the school district has a really cool aviation program (see https://www.granburyisd.org/site/Default.aspx?PageType=3&DomainID=23&PageID=21571&ViewID=6446ee88-d30c-497e-9316-3f8874b3e108&FlexDataID=54089). It's too bad this one situation is reflecting...

    New to G1000, help wanted

A CFI I know just started a new venture teaching avionics on demand, and the first courses are G1000 specific. I did some recurrent training with him recently...he is a good guy. His new website is: https://aviatorsacademy.com/

    PIREP on the PortaPilot?

They might sell more if the name didn't sound similar to a portable toilet.

Which one of you shot off a large rocket today (5/19/22) near Houston?

In the 3rd picture, it looks like it starts below the horizon. If it is below the horizon, how could it be a contrail? F-22 going vertical?

QUICK POLL FOR EVERYONE: Which are you?
