5th Grade Field Trip to an Airport?

Thanks everyone for the pointers and experience. It's pretty disappointing that the ride part is looking so bad. I was hoping to use the young eagles rally because they already have the pilot population for the monthly event and being a national program would instill some confidence in the...

5th Grade Field Trip to an Airport?

Hoping to see if anyone has ever successfully tried to organize something like this. My oldest is in the 5th grade and is really into aviation. There seems to be some interest in his friends when he tells them he goes flying so I had the quick thought that we should organize a school field trip...

Went Flying Today And Forgot My Coffee.

That's funny, I'm the opposite. I'd question my mental capacity without having my morning coffee  However not while flying and I must drink coffee at least 1/2 hour before depature to make sure a trip to the head has been accomplished :)

    Glass cockpit vs steam gauges

Well according to a study a while ago it was found that pilots using Glass were not any safer than steam gauge pilots. Unfortunately the right answer is "it depends" and a lot of it depends on your personality. Just like in Unix emacs vs vi some like the complexity and "knowing the failure...

    Bay area lunch stops?

Petaluma O69 has a pretty good burger joint, if you go as far as Watsonville WVI (My Home airport :) ) theres a relatively new restaurant named props that I've heard is good.

    Daily Pic

Did my first night bay tour recently, these are the best shots. I will say this Angel Island is "DARK" at night: SFO Golden Gate looking south Alcatraz and the financial district Financial district close up

Need a physicist to help with this one...

To put this simply light travels in effect without a medium unlike sound which needs gas, liquid or a solid. So a reference for the speed of light doesn't matter. If you have the truck with point A and B and the truck is moving very fast, say half the speed of light going left to right then...

Hobbies that compete with our flying obsessions...

The kids have been getting into model railroading and I have to admit that I'm getting pulled in a little too. Funny that the kids grew up with aviation so it's not big deal to them.

    Taking Weights

That's only assuming you trust your passengers to divulge accurate information in the first place! I wonder if the NTSB will start weighing people

Requesting Flight Following From Non-Towered Airport

Well after all that, the freq was so busy it turned out to be easier to launch, wait for the freq to die down a little and then make my request. Oh well it still worked out. Man, San Franciso is beautiful at night!

C172 versus Volvo SUV @ Northwest Regional

Re: hi wing meets SUV Boy that's a pretty bad design, however looking at the displaced threshold I don't think he was high enough to reach it properly. But mostly this is just a bad design. Planes flying slow for an approach have limited visibility over the nose.
