My epic flight through Glacier Ntl Park and landing at 58S Whitefish, MT

Thanks. I really enjoyed landing and visiting in Whitefish. My friends showed me around town and we had a nice Italian meal at Ciao Mambo. Tom told me they had recent rain and advised me to land long since the north end gets soft. The next morning, when I left there, I taxied down to the 29...

My epic flight through Glacier Ntl Park and landing at 58S Whitefish, MT

Thanks, it was amazing. I'm sure the park would look a lot different in June than it does in September, but I was told by my friends who live in Whitefish that the glaciers are fading fast, so I'm glad I flew there while there are some glaciers left to see.

My epic flight through Glacier Ntl Park and landing at 58S Whitefish, MT

Thanks, I don't usually post local Tucson area flights here since they are mostly of local interest.

My epic flight through Glacier Ntl Park and landing at 58S Whitefish, MT

After overnighting at a hotel near S27 Kalispell City Airport, on Sept 7, midday, I flew through Glacier National Park and landed at Whitefish airport, where friends picked me up for an overnight visit. The flight was a surreal experience that I will always remember. It had been on my bucket...

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

Cool. I've always wondered what it would be like to be based at TUS... much different experience than where I'm based for sure. I'm sure you get used to it. I like your handle... Timbeck2 ... clever! :)

Yes Tim. My plane is based at 57AZ LaCholla Airpark in Oro Valley on the NW side of Tucson. I see you are in Vail.... cool. What do you fly?

This original thread was about flying into UT25 in Monument Valley and I replied to your question about the runway. You would have no problem landing your Columbia at UT25 on a smooth, paved uphill runway with plenty of parking for many planes on the gravel area. Parking on the paved area is...

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

The runway is in good condition but it is one way in and one way out... no go arounds with high terrain at the south end. When Red Bull had air races there in 2007 they paved and widened the runway. When I was going there with my ultralight the northern 2/3 was red dirt and narrow. You land...

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

Forget finding hangar space anywhere around the Monument Valley area. Most of us ultralight fliers trailered our planes in there and flew locally around the area from UT25 ... That is Navajo land... if someone has to land on their land, they will confiscate the plane as we were told by them...

    Catalina and basic pattern questions

Was this Bison photo shot on Catalina Island or where? I thought the don't feed the foxes sign at AVX was interesting and funny, but seeing this guy would have been really cool!

    Catalina and basic pattern questions

I agree. In normal conditions it is not a challenging approach. Landing on 22 with the long uphill, you can even land long and be ok. When SW winds are up it would even be a shorter roll. People must come in way too high and fast that have problems.

    Catalina and basic pattern questions

My wife and I flew from Tucson to AVX back in mid January. Winds were out of the NE so I came in on 4, which is not normal for there. The uphill part of 4 is much shorter than it is coming in from 22 so you don't want to come in high or fast or you will float too far over the downhill part to...

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

We had ultralight fly-in's at UT25 several years back in mid 2000's and heard from the Navajo's that they didn't like us flying over that area low. They wanted us to pay admission to the park since we were flying over their land without paying admission. We told them we would be happy to pay...

    Monument Valley Lunch Daytrip

Awesome! When you come to visit this area I recommend you stop at UT25 MV for lunch, then fly west over Lake Powell and overnight in Page (PGA). From there it is a nice flight over Marble Canyon and the Zuni Corridor of the Grand Canyon. Here are a couple of my recent videos from there...
