We need a class action suit against the POA Pilots of America

You know how when you get a text, your phone suggests how you should respond? I always thought it would be fun, when my wife sends me a text, just to send the phone response and let that ride, see how it goes. Pretty soon the phones will have a conversation with each other, no input required.

    April solar eclipse

My family and I drove out to Eaton, OH which I selected using windy.com; it predicted 5% cloud cover. We has clear skies. This eclipse was very different from the one in 2017; that one looked like a hole in the universe, it was scary. This one occurred during solar max so the entire sun was...

US submarines leap forward in quietness

Agree. It is based on a true story that makes for compelling reading. Imagine walking into a reactor compartment to make weld repairs knowing you will receive a lethal dose of radiation that will kill you slowly and painfully. Brave men.

Query tracker is a good website to use to find agents and track your queries, I recommend it. There are some publishers that accept un-agented work but the majority do not. There are lots of resources out there on how to write a query. I had good luck, I sent out 59 queries and got two...

US submarines leap forward in quietness

For my money the movie that most accurately depicts the personal dynamics of the wardroom is “Crimson Tide”. The plot is nonsense of course but for a while I thought one of my old skippers had coached Hackman, I mean he nailed his megalomania. The scene where the Xo mentions to the CO to back...

Can you jump a 12V plane battery with a car?

I used to jump my plane when the battery was going. Used regular jumper cables and tied the cowling down with a rope so it wouldn’t flap around when the engine started. Didn’t try to detach while it was running, just got it hot and ran it for five minutes or so, and then shut down, buttoned...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

This might be from the same news source--here is a quote I find literally incredible: "To date, we still do not know who performed the work to open, reinstall, and close the door plug on the accident aircraft," Homendy wrote to Sens. Maria Cantwell and Ted Cruz. "Boeing has informed us that...

A letter from the Southeast United States

Personally I do not understand how someone could spend their entire adult life somewhere and then sell up and move thousands of miles away when they retire. My sister did that, 30+ years in S California then they moved to TN, 2000 miles from their kids and grandchildren. I plan on staying where...

Dealing with a crisis(?) of confidence

Just want to second, third, thirteenth what everyone else said: it’s normal, and the more you fly the more comfortable you will be. Also, adding this: As I age (nearing 4000 hours and age 63) I find myself questioning myself more, “Did I put the oil cap back on?” That sort of thing. To combat...

Stairway to Heaven - Not the Song

South Face Washington Column. We did it in good style, got up to Dinner ledge the first day then did the two pitches above and fixed ropes, jumared up those the next day and at the top by 1
