What exactly is the runway "fence"?

No, it is just hyperbole not a literal fence. It is just referring to a point that is short of the approach end threshold, and sometimes referring to the "50' obstacle".

"He was such a good pilot..."

Russ Francis was no neophyte, either. https://www.petaluma360.com/article/sports/former-49er-great-russ-francis-still-flying-high

All three Las Vegas airports will charge a $3,000 landing fee during F1 races

How are you still paying for the Kingdome?

Good sunglasses that fit well under N/C headsets..

Randolph (and others) actually call the latter "bayonet temples". https://www.randolphusa.com/blogs/blog/bayonet-vs-skull-temples I fly with Oakley Straight Jackets and Half Jackets under Bose A20s and have no problem maintaining a good ear seal, even without the leather helmet.

    Airplane Recommendations -New Pilot GA

This is actually the correct answer for the vast majority of "what airplane should I buy?" threads, regardless of what mission the posters think they're trying to buy an aircraft for.

    I used to like UPS

I am amazed how little time, relatively, it has taken for society to take overnight (and other short timeframe) delivery of consumer goods for granted. Few people seem to remember the days of "6 to 8 weeks for delivery" for anything mail-ordered, and sometimes much longer. If people were to...

American Flyers FIRC 2020/TSA Security Module

I have been using American Flyers FIRC since 2012, and just began my latest refresher this morning. I appreciate that the FIRC content changes constantly, but this time around rather than just multiple choice questions based on the material there is a large amount of free-text answer questions...

"Please don't group numbers, we can't do that" - heard from the tower

I say callsigns using grouped numbers at work all the time and have never heard anyone complain about that. "Indy Center, Air East thirty-one, level three four zero."

    Why 80knots?

I've been trying to get to the bottom of the origin of the 80-knot check for about 10 years, and still don't have a definitive answer as to what or why. BUT.. "Patient Zero" in the 80-knot check was potentially a Lockheed test pilot, Jay Beasley. It still isn't clear how this propagated over...

So, uhh... wow? (pilot in class Bravo without clearance, McCarran)

It isn't about what point I'm trying to make -- it is about *yours*. I would like to know what from what experience perspective you are coming from that has formed your opinion about the relative (de)merit of landing on the taxiway at SNA, and it is completely relevant as to weather or not you...

So, uhh... wow? (pilot in class Bravo without clearance, McCarran)

That's not at all what I asked. Have you ever landed at SNA? How about ORD?
