Easy day. Sorted it out. Had a GTR 200 for comm radio swapping that with GNC 255 to have nav and comm separate from 375. And have remote gtn 20 for backup comm
Thanks all
Almost bought that used eBay nav for $50 :-)
Thanks for inputs. With VORs part of the past and not definitely part of the future, not sure how to invest in equipment.
For intercepting radials, can't the GNX 375 can fly radials and VOR navigation with its GPS feature, but not legal to fly ILS approach on a GNX 375 since its not using...
Selecting GARMIN IFR panel for new plane. The GNX 375 should get the GPS IFR approaches task completed in the Experimental plane.
Does one need to splurge on the GTN 650 to add the Navigation feature to IFR flights? Or GPS good enough?
Adding a navigator with GNC255A seems almost as...
Getting quotes to buy a steel building for a hangar. Some are saying 6" purlins, other say need 10" if going to insulate with R33 rolled fiberglass insulation. This is for building climate zone 5.
OK to go with 6" roof purlins and stuff in extra insulation? or need to design for 10"
thanks all
No instrument approaches. Just visual. At air venture the FAA workshop on building your own runway said 12:1 ratio from top of building to runway.. I’ll have about 5:1 with 20 ft hangar ridge to centerline runway
Thanks all for the feedback. I’m building in area where we need insulation and heat too.
yea maybe just one garage door is enough. Thought was to maybe store a RV in one and a car pull in to work on in the other garage door, but could probably just get the rv in far enough to allow car or...
Thanks for posting. Like that look. Can you share more info about your hangar size, design? Who built it? What steel company? Is it real wood or hardie, etc?
Thanks for the reply Keith, sorry for confusion, I edited the original post. Looking to build a METAL building to get the clear span, but retain the wood shape/look to some point..
Looking for input from experience since this is my first hangar build.
Want to build a METAL hangar with the look of a wooden New England barn with high pitched roof, but want hangar with clear span inside, so going with metal building. Thinking a 50x60 to allow 2-3 planes to tuck in as...
$30k (yikes) to blast off the hump and make the right half flat (about 206 ft elevation).
Trees both ends, but the lower trees are at 130 ft elevation plus 70 foot oaks so the tops are at 210 feet. On the high end the trees are 70 footers at 206 feet, so 276 ft MSL for the tops. Was assuming...
haha right! We are projecting a 3% slope UP for first 1200 ft to top, then 4% down for next 200 feet, then level (3% down if we can fill enough). But standing at one end, you can't see the other end because there is a 300 ft long "bump" of rock in the way sloping down across the runway. Could...
Hi Pilots,
I'm working on the dream of building a runway on residential property. Woods are cleared, now working to grade to 3% slope or less, but rock ledge is preventing 3% max slope. I can dogleg around the high spot or else deal with ~4% slope up over high spot, then 3% slope down rest of...
