O-470U suddenly idling 150 RPM high

And the winner is..... induction leak! Two of the hose clamps on the silicone couplers in the intake manifold were very loose. Tightened and all is good. TY for the help, folks.

O-470U suddenly idling 150 RPM high

Thanks, 1) EDM 900, so unlikely 2) Will do the mixture pull / raising RPM test next time im at the airport 3) All the EGT's look pretty normal, so hoping its not this 4) Same, as above, in flight everything is spot on. I doubt it's timing 5) So yeah, I agree its something with the linkage. TY!! G

Seemingly overnight. No other indications of any problems. Thoughts? Thanks! G

Aircraft and parts prices out of control

Notice those examples are all Textron... just saying. I'm going experimental.

Problems wit AeroCruze 100 install (lack thereof)

@Jesse Saint thank you for your support of this product. It beats Bendix King for sure.

AirVenture summary & observations about the aviation community

It's hard to fault the prices really. EAA could fleece people way more than they do. For example, a t-shirt is $19, a bottle of water is $2. The food is pretty darn good, and the facilities are well maintained. Airventure is a great entertainment value IMO. P.S. I heard that kids were...

AirVenture summary & observations about the aviation community

Isn't it just the best?! Did you catch the night airshow? I got chased out by the nados this year so I missed it, but in past years its just amazing.

Problems wit AeroCruze 100 install (lack thereof)

Any AP without electric trim authority will have this issue. It's not nearly as bad as some are assuming based on the comments. We're talking about the occasional little adjustment here. I've never been so out of trim that disconnecting caused any unreasonable pitch change. This is in my...

    RV-9 with Rotax 915

Agree! Look at the performance of the Sling TSI. It does better on 140HP than any airframe with 1000lb useful has a right to.

Did they indicate that the 15 would be Rotax powered?

    G100UL unleaded avgas approved

The apparent fact that this new fuel can be mixed with 100LL in the same tanks and pumps is super encouraging and will make a rollout actually possible.

Is It Better to Fly at 55% Power or 75% Power, in Terms of Engine Health?

The point I'm making is that at some point at or nearly below 65% power (depending on the engine), there is no red box (i.e. detonation is impossible). So to the OP's point, if you fly at lower power settings, you can't break the engine with the red knob. In our 182's O470U, the magic point is...

Is It Better to Fly at 55% Power or 75% Power, in Terms of Engine Health?

Agree, but the principle is the same. Below 65% you can lean to max economy, above that you need to lean only to max power in order to avoid detonation. -G

Is It Better to Fly at 55% Power or 75% Power, in Terms of Engine Health?

    Here's Lycoming's view on the above https://www.lycoming.com/sites/default/files/Fuel%20Mixture%20Leaning%20Procedures.pdf

Is It Better to Fly at 55% Power or 75% Power, in Terms of Engine Health?

Here's one clear bit of guidance... the big killer of piston engines is either heat or detonation (resulting in lots of heat, btw). Most engines will be immune to detonation at or below 65% power, regardless of mixture settings. So its safer to be at lower power settings vs higher power...
