Is fuel price really a valid reason to pick a stopover?

It depends on the mission to me. If I'm looking to get to Oshkosh or get home more reliably, I'll pick stopovers with maintenance on-field, rental cars, etc even it has higher gas prices. If I'm just out pooting around with nothing to do the next day and don't mind getting stuck, I'll pick the...

Never been to Gaston's fly in. How many people usually come?

    Non-Equity Partner

It sounds like you're buying the rights to fly the other guy's plane and not buying part of the plane itself. It seems to be that way because of the extremely low monthly cost and non equity. If you go with this, be sure to have your own insurance instead of the other guy's insurance.

    PIC IFR refresher course

I'm not quite sure what you're asking about a PIC refresher course. Do you mean completing an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC)?

    Dumped by Instructor?

One bad issue with the current instructor culture is the time-building mentality. A lot of CFI's will jump to the students who will give them the most hours, or the better pay. There aren't many good teachers in all of the instructors out there. Don't take your "dump" hard. Find a new...

What is the best way to study for the Instrument Written Test?

I think most people here would agree that after the Private Pilot Airplane (PAR) test, Sheppardair is the way to go.

charging dual rates for solo flights?

Charging dual rates for some solo flights is common practice. It all varies on flight school policy. Most flight schools have a supervised solo versus an unsupervised solo. They usually only conduct one to two supervised solos, those being the first and second solos around the pattern. The...

    Painting my Grumman Tiger seats

Regardless of how the FAA will see this, I can't imagine this looking as decent as if you just reupholstered them using the ladies' sewing group at your local church.

    Aspiring Pilot's question to members

Professionalism from a Flight Instructor is arguably one of the most important traits that they can have as it fits in with their people skills. If your instructor is not communicating with you well, standing you up, etc, find a new CFI as soon as possible. As others have said, never give a...

Timing an ILS Approach or Not?

Evening everyone! I'm a CFI-I at a popular school in the Mississippi area. Recently we got a new flight instructor in who has about the same experience as I have, but different ideas on appropriate procedures. I'll give you the scenario, and I'd like to hear what each of you thinks about the...

    Do you smell something burning?

This is one reason I love having the split-cowl on my Grumman. I can open both sides and examine the entire engine compartment during pre-flight. When I was flying Cessna's, not being able to look deep inside really worried me.

    Sun N Fun 2016?

We were there as well! I flew in Thursday about mid-day for my first time ever flying into an airshow and it wasn't too congested. We camped and left yesterday, getting stuck at KAUO due to a broken rudder return spring that we've got on order now. I flew away from the show with a Stratus 2S...

Transition from low wing to high wing?

An umbrella for the car and an umbrella for the plane. ;) The rain does make a difference though, especially when considering seals that are wearing and leaking water and other maintenance issues.

Transition from low wing to high wing?

I transitioned from Cessna 152's and 172's to a Grumman Tiger. After having about 60 hours in the high wings, I was sold on always wanting to fly a high-wing for my training and pre-airline work. Man was I wrong. I enjoy the low-wing Grumman much more. I get better visibility and comfort in the...
