Our Garmin 430 is not showing any airports on the nearest page and when you try to go direct to, it says that waypoint doesn’t exist. I’m inputting a nearby public use airport.
The unit has GPS signal and the card has been updated.
Looking at a Chart supplement at an uncontrolled airport today and I see a Clearance Delivery frequency (no phone number). What name do I use when I call them for a clearance?
Let’s say the associated Center control is Chicago Center, do I say Chicago Clearance or use the airport name? Or...
Thanks for all the replies. I knew our company radios were not modulating properly, but I was hoping there was a solution on the receiver end to stop it.
I have heard that PS engineering has some sort of decibel modulation in one of their audio panels which made me think there may be an inline...
We have an audio panel that allows us to listen to Comm 1, Comm 2 and FM (company) as well as others. I have a single volume control on the audio panel, as well as on the aviation radios and company radio.
The issue is with the company radio not being modulated. On our other company radios...
I fly a helicopter for work and we monitor 3 different radios at times. Our company radio system does not modulate volume at all. Some people are loud on it and others you can barely hear.
Does anyone know of an in-line plug in device that will modulate the volume?
I’ve heard PS-engineering...
Back when I got my IFR rating ( pre-GPS) I was taught to go from the airport direct to a VOR to join an airway. (VOR’s being much more plentiful) There was no DR unless it was a SID, that I recall.
Thankfully, GPS has solved this problem.
I guess what I can’t wrap my head around is, if you...
So explain how I can legally navigate from a departure airport to an intersection on an airway without using radar vectors or GPS? How did you navigate to the airway that you were cleared to intercept?
Are you suggesting I can use dead reckoning to fly IFR from the airport to the intersection?
Without GPS or radar vectors, can you navigate from an airport to an intersection on a VOR airway or just to the airway itself without first going to a VOR?
I think the answer is no, because you don’t have positive navigation guidance. But I’m not sure.
If I want to depart an airport and...
Congrats on getting your PPL. The instrument rating is a great add on and will make you a better pilot for sure.
I’ve been involved in 2 clubs, both of which were great experiences for me. Both were ownership clubs, one of which I created. I prefer it the equity set up, mainly for the...
Looking at the low IFR en route chart east of Wichita, I find the ROCKNE fix on the 070 radial for the Wichita VOR. It is a fix on a jet route that is shown on the high altitude chart. I don’t see where it’s a fix for am approach at any of the local airports.
My question is, why is it...
