MSF as an aid in learning to fly

I think it can help. Just remember there is no 'reset' button when flying a real plane.

    Back in the saddle again

38 years for me...22-60. Now I am back at it enjoying the wonderful world of flying. I even bought a few planes.

    FAAST Meetings, do you recommend?

I go for a number of reasons: I might learn something that can make me a safer pilot. Good attendance shows support for general aviation (It is up to us to protect our right to fly). Being present can say to others, including FAA folks, that I care about continued education (and I do believe...

What Percentage of Your Time is Cross Country?

How far must one fly to be considered a cross country? I used to think of 'cross country' as far enough from home that I could get lost. I often did too. Now with GPS getting lost is a thing of the past.

    My new plane.

This one does not float like most BC12s. It is a clip wing with inverted fuel and oil.

    My new plane.

I saw this in a hangar somewhere and thought it would be fun, so I bought it. I never flew a T-craft before and this one only has a single seat. When asked who taught me to fly it, I pointed to my biplane. and said "she taught me".

How worth it is Oshkosh?? Version 2.0

Why not do the cross country and stop short? Store your plane at a nearby airport and bum a car ride the rest of the way. I am sure you can find someone on this site that would give you a lift. I have been to Oshkosh once and had a good time. It is an experience pilots like to check off.

Cant tell if good deal. 1st plane

You can buy a nice plane for $60,000. That is what you are getting into. So start searching for good $60,000 airplanes.

How crazy is buying a 60 year old 172...

If it is airworthy, has all ADs addressed and has a fresh annual, it is worth much more than $8000. Why would the owner want to give it away? Please keep in mind that lots of stuff gets done to fix a bent plane that never enters the logs. Those fixes should; however, they don't.

    Should I join EAA?

Both. We need to do all we can to protect general aviation.

What fly-ins do you plan to attend in 2019?

I might stop by and visit Sentimental Journey. I am kicking around the idea of flying to Oshkosh for Airventure; however, I'll only make the trip if I can arrive early before the bs starts. Of course the National Waco Club's 60th and Blakesburg are on my agenda. There are lots of little...

    Aviation Bucklist Time!

Do you have a tail wheel endorsement? If not, that experience will help you with your other goals.

Today is my airplane's 77th birthday!

December 4, 1941 and she went right to work teaching kids in the Civilian Pilot Training Program in Kansas. She is still teaching and I am her #1 student.

    Aeronca Champ vs. Cessna 150?

Some points that may not have been mentioned: Yoke vs stick, left or right hand throttle, differences in visibility, respect for asphalt runways and cabin heat. Then there are the intangibles: the feeling of being alone in the cockpit even though the instructor is behind, feeling like you are...
