Do some research on the Maule, either the M5 or M7. You can get them tailwheel or tricycle. Sound like it would meet your mission and maybe if you're patient you could find one in your price range. They've got a great stall speed and cruise speed and a useful load of around 1000 pounds.
Looks like everyone is OK. Mike seems pretty beat up about it. I can't imagine seeing years and years of labor and planning going down the drain so quickly.
I was the same way as well. My problem was I couldn't hold altitude turning left for some reason. I started watching the attitude indicator and kept the plane right on the horizons and nailed it every time

Never had a problem with it, but if you're posting here I'm assuming you have your instrument rating, which means you can fly with all the windows blocked off with a blanket or something along those lines. It's legal, I promise... just don't check the FARs
