Why I No Longer Fly Lean of Peak For Now

I’ll attempt to post some snap shots of my JPI-930, each of them at 65% power, and let the comments fly. One significant caveat. The engine is an O-520 Texas Skyways conversion mounted on a ‘65 ‘H’ model C-182. This was two days ago, 7,000 msl between Chattanooga and Atlanta. TAS was 128knots.

Why I No Longer Fly Lean of Peak For Now

David Megginson, that a fair question/statement. Assuming the same power setting (65% on the JPI) is it accurate to interpret lower CHTs and EGTs to lower internal cylinder pressures? If CHTs and EGTs continue to drop, can one go TOO lean? Many Thanks

Why I No Longer Fly Lean of Peak For Now

All right, I’m late to the party but would like to continue to beat this dead horse. Is it fair/correct to say that lower EGTs and CHTs always equate to lower internal cylinder pressures?

    Torn retina anyone?

Congrats Van Johnson! I too, have taken advantage of Basic Med, and have flown maybe 15 hours in the last 4-6 weeks, in our C-182. My retina remains attached (so far, so good). My next Ophthalmologist appt is on March 10th. Doc. indicated he’ll take the silicone out of my eye in early April...

    1st Annual in our C-182

The oil was changed about (3) weeks, and (3) hours prior to the annual. Didn’t make economic sense to drain and dispose of nearly-new oil. Filter was cut open at oil change, and at annual, for the same reason- - just makes sense.

    1st Annual in our C-182

If I understood my mech. correctly, it wasn't so much the filter, but the bracket that holds the filter element. That bracket had be (slightly) damaged due to improper torquing, and was ruined. The assembly and element was something like $130. So, the inspection was just over $1400. Oh, he...

    1st Annual in our C-182

I spent a lot of time looking for THE airplane, and finally found it. A '65 "H" model. 3800TT, 100SNEW Texas Skyways o-520 conversion, 3-blade prop (both just under 1 year old). I was worried about the annual, as being a never-before airplane owner, I've heard lots of horror stories. So, I...

    Torn retina anyone?

Sorry to hear this Van Johnson. I completely empathize with you. The first time one goes thru that retina detachment thing, it's hard to take it seriously. But the second tear....it is incredibly discouraging to see that curtain come down into one's vision, having experienced it once already...

    Torn retina anyone?

Hi Rushie, I’m wondering, with all the work you’ve had done, what Is your vision after all this work, compared to what it was before. Were you able to get back to 20/20?

    Part 141 Schools - Reviews

Take a look here. I paid for my own education, and was very much a budget minded flier, but also wanted a good education. Between a good balance of hard work, and good luck, I have been blessed to work for Delta Airlines for just over 25 years. I fly an A-320/321 for them, and am approaching...

    Torn retina anyone?

Hi Jon, Sure, no worries talking about this. But I think there’s misunderstanding about the bubble(s) to which you refer. My bubble took occurred as a result of a surgical procedure called vitrectomy, where the surgeon uses a laser to repair or reattach the retina, and then subsequently...

    Torn retina anyone?

I’m on surgery number three. Two ops with the gas bubble, both resulted in a resulted in a re-tear. 3rd attempt, with a silicon bubble, looks like it will succeed. It took about 6-7 weeks for my gas bubble(s) to completely dissipated. 1st surgery was May 7th of ‘19. The last operation was...

    Amazon [contract] pilots are grumbling

“Most people” don’t spend $100k on preparing for a job they MIGHT get. “Most people” don’t have an ATP. How about a conversation about what “most qualified” people will do?

    Lifter Failure

I am a new aircraft owner and like most owners, I really want to take care of my engine with “best methods” approach. What is the most recent conclusion of the brain trust on engine dehumidifiers? Any chance a dehumidifier would mitigate or even eliminate this type issue?
