    1959 Cessna 180

Additionally if it hasn’t been done already you can remove the ladder springs that support your seat foam and replace with a ceconite base to save an additional inch and a half or so. The side bolsters on the seatt bottom you posted look great but there could be up to 4 inches of foam to build...

Garmin GNS 430W install along with GTR 200B

Indeed they can both “stand alone” but they both will be coupled at the headset Jack and would no longer be standing alone in your proposed system. Mic jacks are a pain in the butt to work around and solder, I’d hate to double the amount of wires going to them… I have an old KMA24 that...

Is ded rec/pilotage over cities harder for you?

Thomas guide is your friend, or any road map or topo map. Along the coast you have the pacific ocean, the 405 and hwy 1. To the north of the yellow blob are mountains and the 210 from Big Bear to Valencia. Look at all the valleys and highways in between, Riverside with lake Mathews and Lake...

    Electric Scooter 2021

I just got a couple of these from costco for $300 each. https://ridejetson.com/products/bolt-pro-electric-bike-refurbished?variant=32381463461971 They have a 15-30 mile range (depending if you assist with the pedaling) and fit nicely in the back of the skylane. On the flats they're great, up...

More than just touchup paint but less than a respray?

Having painted a few cars and done a bit of skylane touch up, here are my thoughts. Definitely buy at the very least a harbor freight hvlp gun as opposed to rattle cans. The finish will look much better, it will cost less in the long run, and will be way easier to shoot. Depending on how far...

    Thoughts! $390k 74 206?!?!?

Ive flown up to auburn to look at a few planes that particular broker has advertised, and each time I felt they were priced well above market rate and had lots of issues not listed or photographed. 47 years old with no log books for 35 of those years I’d want a VERY thorough prebuy/annual from...

GDL-50r series AHRS + Ipad VS. Garmin Aera (bluetooth vs wired)

I put a gdl50r in my skylane and love it. I hard wired it to a 660 (in an air gizmo) and use Bluetooth With my iPad. Hardwired is great as the 660 is always powered and charged, it to mention I hate wires all over the place. To me the 660is a great addition to ForeFlight, not a replacement...

    GPS175+GTR225+UA 30+Tailbeacon=Thoughts?

George, Have you looked at the Garmin gdl50r for adsb in. It will feed ForeFlight over Bluetooth and can hardwire to a 660 as well. I put one in my skylane with a stratus esg and couldn’t be happier. I too hate portables and wires all over the cockpit. Jim

    new avionics

Less cost and labor to get a Garmin 225 or icom 220 with built in intercom. I’ve flown a friends scout with the icom and while the radio was great setting squelch on the intercom was a pain in the butt having to go 1-2 menus deep. If I had to do an intercom on the cheap it would be a ps...

    How does FAA define diabetes?

First off pre diabetes is diabetes, its just the at point where if your a type 2 good diet and lifestyle choices can reverse it. Pre diabetes is associated with an A1C ranging from 5.6-6.4, once your A1C hits 6.5 your labeled diabetic and chances are its with you for life. At the age of 38...

    GMA-350C or PMA-450B?

I have a ps engineering 8000bt, and no experience with the Garmin unit. My favorite feature by far is the automatic squelch on the 8000. It just works, perfectly, all the time. Even with 4 mismatched headsets and kids in the back squelch is seemingly perfect. I love not having to adjust it ever.

    Headsets?

I have a Zulu 2 and a Zulu 3 in the skylane. They’ve been great for the last 7 years, Super comfortable and durable. I run them from a lemo panel connector so they get power from the panel. Since my cub has no electrical system I got a set of sierras for that plane. I can not tell any...

    DIY interiors

An average hide is 50 square feet. Layout is tougher than vinyl as you may have to work around bug bites and scars. If its your first time sewing upholstery I'd highly recommend trying a few with some cheap vinyl before committing to the nice leather. 2 hides will easily do the front and back...

    DIY interiors

I did a full interior on my old 172 and have done a few sets of seats and headliners for friends. If you haven't yet take a look at sailrite.com, while its geared more toward boating sewing is still sewing and they have a TON of great tutorials. As far as foam goes, I like to laminate 1/2" scrim...

Keep old Intercom or get new Audio panel

I had a sigtronics intercom and music switcher as well as a kma-24 audio panel in my 182, it sounded great but the audio soft mute was a bit annoying. I replaced them with a ps engineering 8000bti and am reasonably satisfied. While a lot of people bag on the sigtronics, it was completely noise...
