    Who's flying tomorrow?

I went up for some night takeoffs and landings, from KBJC, to KFNL, to KGXY and back. Unfortunately, I got to see a tanker truck fire from from the air near KFNL: http://www.9news.com/rss/story.aspx?storyid=218728

    Cleared for the approach?

I did get the clearance for the approach in a 2nd transmission (shortly after passing through the localizer). I only overshot the localzier by one dot anyway before getting cleared.

    Cleared for the approach?

Over the weekend, I was able to get some actual instrument time in Denver. On the way back into KBJC, I shot the ILS 29R approach. I was getting vectors from the north. I got from approach "turn right 260 to intercept the localizer". The final approach coarse is 293 on this procedure...

    Woo! CSEL ride passed!!!

Nice Job! I remember my CSEL ride with out of control winds, especially ending up with a 12 kt tail wind trying to hit the 1000' marker. The examiner let that one slide. Congrats! -Brian

Do you give your friends "free" rides?

I do give a few people rides, but I never accept money from them even if they offer. This is due to the Mark Strub accident, and the issues he ran into with the FAA after accepting only $8 from a passenger. http://www.aopa.org/members/files/pilot/2008/accident0807.html

    The best airplane?

If money didn't count at all? Citation X More practical? SR-22 (they're a lot of fun to fly!)

Funniest thing you've heard on the radio?

While doing a night VFR X-C about a year ago from Nebraska back to KBJC near Denver, I listened in on Denver Approach. Some twin (can't remember the type now) asked for a specific route through DEN class Bravo. Controller responded with "Unable. The idiots that designed this airspace agreed...

Not wanting to fly in IMC

GXY ILS 34, GXY VOR-A and BJC ILS 29R. Ceilings were about 1000', so no great challenge there. It's glass panel. It went OK, but I spent most of the time trying to stay ahead of the airplane (and didn't in a couple of cases). It's just going to take more practice... :) Thanks, Brian

Not wanting to fly in IMC

I think the low time is my primary concern, coupled with my near-icing experience on the first time I went up by myself in IMC. I do file IFR in VMC from time to time, but I usually take the visuals. I do fly approaches, both under the hood and just while I'm flying around, so I am comfortable...

Not wanting to fly in IMC

Yep, and that's specifically what caused me to start this topic! I had really wanted to take advantage of the weather this weekend. Saturday was out due to the thunderstorms and prior commitments, but Friday and Sunday were both good. Yet, I found myself coming up with excuses not to do it...

Not wanting to fly in IMC

I got my instrument ticket in December 2005. I have kept current since then, with at least the required number of approaches, holds and tracking, but I have only flown twice in IMC. Once was with my instructor while working on my rating. The second time was in September 2006, when I was...
