We ended up going to the scheduled service and waited while he calibrated my ancient NARCO VORs. We were there for about 4 hours. Also he is doing a GTX345 install for a club plane I also fly, and the estimates beat everyone else around.

Darn you guys have got me perusing eBay for 3308s. I thought the big expenses would be live once we bought the plane.

On the sandel 3308, did you compare total costs with something like an Aspen? I'm looking at a 430w or gtn 650 but am faced with the same dilemma, 1500-2000 for a nav head, could be put into a sandel, or other pfd/mfd setup...

It was a local flying club plane. Reminded me that a student pilot did nearly the same thing at the same airport when I 1st started flying: PA28 vs Semi 1997 She wasn't nearly as lucky. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE FRIENDS!

No-brainer here. Just do it! I look at the PPL as a High School Diploma, and the Instrument Rating as a Bachelor Degree.

Just a note to say I built a Stratux a while back and have flown with it side-by-side another iPad on a Stratus 1 and Stratus 2. The traffic and weather is nearly identical. If you are a tinkerer, you can put this together rather easily with the instructions out there. Even the kickstarter...
