CFI says I can’t use electronic E6B on written — what??

Passed! 95%, only one question requiring an E6B and that was for a crosswind component. Electronic one was allowed.

CFI says I can’t use electronic E6B on written — what??

Thanks, all! Taking the written tomorrow -- I'll bring both E6Bs. Will report back.

CFI says I can’t use electronic E6B on written — what??

Makes sense! Yeah, time hasn’t been a concern. I’ve knocked out 60-question practice tests pretty dang quick and gotten good scores. I’ll get some practice in between now and the test to make sure I’m proficient with the old school version. Thanks!

CFI says I can’t use electronic E6B on written — what??

Hey, all! I’m finally knocking out the written… just in the nick of time, too. Checkride isn’t too far off! While endorsing my logbook for the written after today’s flight, I asked if I could use my electronic E6B for the PPL written, and I was told that I need to use the mechanical calculator...

Operations Threshold to Establish a Tower

Not trying to thread-jack here, but I'm curious. Anyone know why KFDK and KESN have towers when both lack scheduled airline service? My best guesses would be multiple runways (unlikely, there are plenty of non-towered fields with crossing runways) or the presence of a State Police helicopter...

    Who can give endorsements?

61.31 does cover this— was mostly just wondering if I was missing something. Looks like I’m not and non-CFIs cannot give flight endorsements.

    Who can give endorsements?

I had a discussion today in which it was stated that a person does not need to be a CFI in order to give an endorsement— only that they need to have the endorsement they’re going to give. Is that correct? Everything I’ve seen points to the contrary but I’m more than happy to be wrong on this one.

New CFI (Me) and my Son

I'd absolutely recommend that you (and your son) check out the International Aerospace Camp at the University of North Dakota. It's open to rising juniors and seniors, so I think it's a way off (sounds like he's entering freshman year), but absolutely worth it regardless. I went last year and...

Blood-Covered Pilot Continues Flying Plane After Bird Slams Into Cockpit

Bet he wishes he had the visor down and mask on! Might've gone much differently if the bird had gone any further and actually hit him, I think. Anyone else notice that he was taking a video at 450 feet?? Definitely sterile cockpit territory in the Warrior but I suppose for a guy that earns his...

    8500-8 Advice

One would think that the possibility of a $250k fine or 5 years in prison would be deterrent enough when it comes to fudging the forms…

New York fertility doctor accused of using own sperm dies when hand-built plane crashes

"Hand-built" is an interesting thing to specify here... I'd imagine most of the GA fleet flying today was assembled by hand. Of course they really meant to say "home-built" and we can't expect journalists to be subject matter experts when it comes to what is, to the general public, a relatively...

Anyone else call it walking the dog?

Guessing that's the provenance of it. Good to know nobody else uses it that way, though.

Anyone else call it walking the dog?

Wondering if this is a peculiarity of my school or a widespread thing- where I fly, "walking the dog" is slow flight clean/dirty, a power off and then a power on stall. Would people know what I'm talking about outside of this school or would it confuse them?

Piper Warrior Runway Overrun @ KANP (12/26)

Not only that speed hasn't reached 70 knots but has decayed to less than 60... yikes. I'm not quite sure where 70 came from for takeoff, either. That the pilot said that there was no change in engine noise also seems odd. It isn't as if performance would have been an issue in late December...
