Enough jobs for the student pilot population?

If it was that black and white... sure. But relaying a personal story about a colleague's spouse finding a satisfying career outside the airlines is hardly the same as claiming to provide expert counsel on all the career options available in the industry. And suggesting other people might find a...

Enough jobs for the student pilot population?

I'm not on the professional track but as an observer on a number of pilot job forums I've seen some anecdotal evidence that the market is saturated. One really stood out a couple months ago when a guy posted an opportunity for ferry work to fly a C150 from the midwest to the north east, and like...

First plane? Archer, Arrow, etc. any recommendations

Base annual inspection price at shops near me is about $2500-3000. Pretty hard to get out the door for less than $4k if anything needs repair/replacement.

First plane? Archer, Arrow, etc. any recommendations

Insurance my first year when I had 56h and 1 complex hour. Like 3700ish on a 75k hull. Now, at 660h TT and 600 in type it's about 2100. Annuals vary. Mine are a bad point of reference because I do a lot of optional stuff. The first year will be brutal probably, same with any plane. After that I...

First plane? Archer, Arrow, etc. any recommendations

Arrow checks all those boxes. For 100k I think it's reasonable to get an Arrow with a mid-ish time engine, a 430 GPS (or newer if you're lucky), and G5 or two. If you want more glass or a fancy new modern AP you'll probably be spending a bit more. But 100k can get you a decent arrow. You...

    Phoenix area training recommendations

I have a friend in Phoenix/Scottsdale area interested in getting their pilots license. They're open to either sport or PPL, as this will just be a hobby for him (works in 3d design/engineering). He's googled around a bit but most of the search results are the 141 schools, which are probably not...

    Alaska Air Ground Stop

Well that's good news. Given how well Alaska Airlines 737 doors work, and how well their W&B computers work, I'm not really eager to find out how well their refund policy works.

    Alaska Air Ground Stop

Well that's great! I'm supposed to fly out on them tomorrow!

What kept you going through training?

I did my PPL in 2 sprints of training with about a 7 month gap in between. What got me to finish is 2 things: I hated looking up on a nice day and seeing planes in the sky and knowing I could be one of them, if only I'd finish my damn training. That combined with realizing life is short and...

Let's not forget the rolly things, boys

Looks like everyone aboard should be totally fine if not just a little rattled. Oh! and look what just got listed!

    DIY IRAN?

Wow, I had no idea Lycoming partnered with someone to offer that schooling. I really like that. Sidebar but have you done it? Is it only for the folks who have a pretty mechanical background, or could it be valuable for a pilot who is pretty unfamiliar with engine mechanics?

Getting share price down for flying clubs

Not all equity is created equal. The capital structure is important. If we have a club slinging memberships for $3500 to only 40 members yet they "own" 1m$ in aircraft then I think one of three things is going to be true: 1) The bank owns the planes in club 2, not the members. They're making...

Looking for other PA-28 pilots to follow on social media

Interesting. I watched the video 1x and then it became private. It's no longer available. Going based off my memory since I can't rewatch the video... Everything looked OK up until about ~4:05 to 4:10 IIRC. Or maybe more accurately what I should say is that the landing could have been...

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

I've heard this from a couple people. I'm curious, what happened post COVID that made them want to focus on this? Has their been an uptick in the number of cases with improperly certified individuals/aircraft offering on-demand transport, or more accidents or something? I'm wondering if...
