    RPM vs LOP

In a fuel injected engine, why is there even a need to adjust mixture? The injectors are controlled by a computer anyway, so why not reduce flow based on density altitude?

    Restricted ATP-S?

This may be an odd ball question. I know a pilot can apply for R-ATP with 1500 total and 200 xc time. But what about single engine ATP? 61.160(f) makes it sound like this is only applicable for multi-engine, which sounds a bit odd. Am I reading this correctly?

Clubs or rentals near Daytona Beach?

Was I wrong in assuming that Daytona is a hot bed of aviation activties? They all seem to be 141 schools with instructors with epaulets. No clubs, no FBO rentals and no independent operations?

Clubs or rentals near Daytona Beach?

It looks like most of the airports near DAB cater to professional training only. I could not find any rentals, part 61 or independent clubs. Does anyone have information about this?

Removing a valve from oxygen tank

I am trying to remove the valve from my aluminum oxygen tank and replace it with a better one. Every instruction I have seen online says to hold the tank and turn the valve with a wrench. But that is not so easy because the cylinder is round and has no place for gripping. Instructions also say...

Should you get a PPL license even if you are only expecting to fly LSA?

I couldn't find that definition in the FARs. I thought PPL was the shorthand slang for "people". Or Pennsylvania Power and Light.

MedXPress - Have you EVER been hospitalized?

What exactly is "hospitalization"? If you went to the ER for a broken leg, is that hospitalization?

    Tax deduction for CFIs

Trying to figure out what a CFI can legitimately deduct from taxes. Based on my reading, all recency experience needed to remain current can be deducted, including Flight Reviews, IPCs and such. But what about other things such as club dues? Clearly one needs to be a club member in order to...

    Severe Insonmia. Need help.

He was a law-breaking, lying cheat who shouldn't be allowed to fly. At least that was the general sentiment from responses. Yet, for this guy, everyone has recommendations from melatonin to cherry juice. I know, you are thinking that insomnia is not a self-induced impairment like smoking pot...

    Severe Insonmia. Need help.

"Moderate sleep deprivation produces impairments in cognitive and motor performance equivalent to legally prescribed levels of alcohol intoxication" - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1739867/ Are you still flying with this condition? The outpouring of sympathy from this group is...

    Drug test

Smokers exhibit compromised performance in the cockpit, especially in a nonpressurized aircraft. This is even in the FAA pilot's handbook of aeronautical knowledge. Those who consume more than one drink per day have a significantly higher risk of a very long list of diseases, including suicide...

    Drug test

The guy didn't say he smoked pot and went flying intoxicated. The law is clear, but it doesn't mean it has to make sense. Pot is legal in Canada (all provinces), and Canadian pilots are flying in practically the same airspace as ours. The sky hasn't fallen yet in Canada. Some U.S laws are behind...

What happens to an altimeter in cold weather? I put mine in the freezer to find out

The weight of the atmosphere does not change, so ideally pressure at sea level does not change due to temperature in a fundamental way. But the height of the atmosphere will change with temperature. So what changes is the pressure lapse rate. Hot to cold, lookout below is still correct. This is...
