Can you jump a 12V plane battery with a car?

That's exactly what you can do. You can also use a car jump pack. And I've even seen a 24V plane jumped with two vehicles with the batteries disconnected from the cars and wired in series.

Help me figure out landing lights/wig-wags

Another option is AeroLEDs Sunspot has some variations of their lights that have built in flashers. I have a Pulselite system with WAT bulbs, but if I was doing it from scratch I would definitely look into the Sunspots. Looks like all you need is to run a power wire for full time power, pulse...

Need help planning a VFR trip to the Aleutians

ooooo boy.... This is quite the trip. I will just say that I, and many many other Alaskan pilots, will suggest you visit some of our other very gorgeous areas that are slightly less likely to try to kill you. If the weather says it's supposed to be clear that is exactly zero guarantee you don't...

    Query: Remote Preheater on/off solutions

Multiple people can access it. You just need the QR code that the box shows or you can access the QR code in the app and can be shared from there.

Seaplane insurance: Straight floats vs. Amphibs / new pilot

Generally that's what we are referring to. I think it is irresponsible to not carry liability for yourself, others, and your heirs - it's not too pricey. I believe in Alaska there is also a cap on liability damages that can be assessed if you have insurance, but no cap if you don't. Don't quote...

Seaplane insurance: Straight floats vs. Amphibs / new pilot

I self insure" my plane, but carry liability for just that reason.

Seaplane insurance: Straight floats vs. Amphibs / new pilot

As a point of comparison, with no float time my insurance quote was 8% of hull value on straight floats in AK. That was 5 years ago or so.

    Personal Locator Beacon (2021)

Nothing much new. As Brad W mentioned, ACR came out with a satellite messenger (the Bivy Stick) that uses the same Iridium network as the InReach. Seems like the same thing as an InReach Mini. A few other lesser known messangers are: - Zoleo, but it doesn't have a tracking function which makes...

19 year old solo around the world

I was wondering what happened as Anchorage is her next stop and today would have been a great day to make the hop along the coast. Hope she gets it figured out soon!

Flying Alaska 2021 (Part 2) - Weather & Final Prep

Wayne, When you're in Alaska I would highly recommend calling flight service if you've got weather or other questions. The weather briefers up here are still locals who like talking weather and they know what's going on in terms of field conditions. I am not a weather expert and they have...

Scratching head- Traffic patterns are non-regulatory???

91.126(b)(1) says that Direction of turns. When approaching to land at an airport without an operating control tower in Class G airspace - (1) Each pilot of an airplane must make all turns of that airplane to the left unless the airport displays approved light signals or visual markings...

    Flying into White Mountains, NH

Since when has that stopped POA before? That being said I have nothing to offer except that the area is gorgeous but stick to low wind days especially if you haven't been in the mountains much before.

    Raptor Aircraft

Looks like it leaves the ground 3,300 ft down runway 17 as measured on Google Maps. Assuming he started at the edge of the piano keys. That is worse than previous ground effect runs, maybe because he has fuel onboard.

    Raptor Aircraft

Just did some measuring on google earth. The Raptor lifts off at about 3,030' down the runway with only Peter and 11 gallons of fuel.
