I used to be really into waterskiing, wakeboarding and boating. When I started flying and later bought the plane, I sold the boat. Still have a SeaDoo so I can get out on the lake.
I rented the hangar first. It’s an insulated T-hangar with electric for $300 per month. Ended up buying the plane a year later. Even though I paid for the year with no plane, I was still able to use it to store some things.
I recently installed a JPI 830 in my 182S. I got a quote from all the main online avionics distributors and ended up saving a few bucks off of what was advertised. Installation was around $1700.
I agree. Buy what makes you happy and fulfills your mission. I do find it funny sometimes when people that go through the trouble and expense of earning their pilot certificate because they love to fly then go out and buy a plane that will get them to their destination and back on the ground...
I saw an interview with him once where he was telling a story about flying with the real Pappy Boyington. Robert Conrad had earned his Private Pilot Certificate in order to prepare for the roll. He said he later bought a Bonanza (I think) and used to fly it back and forth to the set. One time...
