If you’re in BK’s target market, consider asking the dealer for the warranty documents before making the deposit. It’s only a 2 year warranty for a product we all expect to last 20+ years. But the same as Garmin. However, the devil is in the details. What’s included with the warranty...
This may not be too relevant these days, but I paid $14k in Sept 2019 for a strip and repaint of a 172xp at Ormond Aircraft in FL. Quality of their work is excellent.
Asicer, if I’m cruising up at 6k and I’m on final leg headed toward the initial approach fix which is at 3k, do you press VNAV and it will begin a descent to the initial approach fix at 3k, or do you activate VNAV once you reach the initial app fix, and then it flies the step downs?
Not yet. In fact, I just had a 650xi installed and was doing some button pushing in the hangar while connected to alternate power source. After about 30 mins the fan kicked on, and had no issues.
Looking for advise on when to replace/overhaul the alternator in my 1977 172XP. I’ve owned the plane for 3 yrs, and have had absolutely no issues with the alternator. It’s a Ford DOFF10300F. According to the engine log book the last time it was overhauled was in 2006 (1300hrs ago). What’s the...
I upgraded to a GTN650xi & GTX345 last week. At the end of the install discovered that ForeFlight would not comm directly with the 650, unless I paid an additional $1,200 for Flight Stream. Sticker shock? Yes. Worth it? Yes. Hate Garmin for price gouging? Yup.
Thank you very much for sharing. Your numbers are in line with the 20 hrs, I was quoted by a FL based avionics shop. Seemed like a lot, but I have no experience to say one way or the other.
Looking for information on the labor to do the upgrade. I'm upgrading from a GTX327 to a GTX345. My panel includes Garmin 430 WAAS, 2 G-5s, and a GFC 500. What can I expect for the number of hours I'll be asked to pay for the upgrade?
A great outcome for all involved. I hope Pilot-to-Pilot or one of the other podcasts will be able to connect with the passenger in the near future for an interview.
. Hope it doesn’t come to that. With class actions, it always seems like the class members get very little, while the attorneys are awarded huge fees. In the end, it may have taken a nudge, but Garmin came through. I’m satisfied.
Under 100hrs on my GFC 500 and the pitch trim servo failed. Was replaced with new under warranty after Garmin’s tech recommendations didn’t clear the fault. Shop then sent me an invoice for $1k of labor saying Garmin would only pay them for 2hrs of labor. Im an attorney and offered to file suit...
I paid total $23k in 2020/2021 for 2 G5s, GFC 500 (3 servos), and new pilot and co-pilot panels. Because of finances, I had to do it in stages. The G5s and panels were done first ($12k). Followed in 2021 with the GFC 500 for $11k. If I recall correctly the panels were approx $1k. The shop I...
