    Questions from a Sun 'n Fun first-timer

I've only been once, last yr from Louisburg, NC. Once you park you are there til you fly out. I brought drinks and snacks to keep at my plane/tent. I brought my portable jump starter which has air pump (luckily not needed) and a usb port to charge my phone each night. Plenty of food to buy and...

    How old is/was your CFI?

My cfi (ex cfi, I'm ppl now :D) is retired Coast Guard (20 yrs) and is in his 40's. I was 51yo when I started my training. I'm sure it depends on the individual but I believe I would have preferred an adult rather than a kid. I have a lot of respect for his skills, teaching ability, and outlook...

    LED Landing Light Replacement

You can replace light bulbs on your plane if you hold at least a PPL. Has to be exact or an approved replacement and make a logbook entry. I want to do this too. I have the nose and 2 wing lights and I cringe when I see the current draw when all 3 are on. Current draw equals the possibility of...

Getting to Cherokee NC via 24A

Airport looks very good in the picture on Google Maps, is just 3ish miles south of Sylva where the Enterprise location is, and only a mile (by air) to Western Carolina University so it seems to not be too far from civilization. I'll give Enterprise a call but I assume I need to arrive at the...

Getting to Cherokee NC via 24A

Thinking about flying to Sylva/Jackson Co. Airport sometime, order a Enterprise rent a car, then check out the Cherokee casino. Anyone flown to 24A? Airnav says it's unattended so I guess tiedown is free. They have 24 hr ss gas, that's good.

    Fuel Pressure

I suspect you did not install 2 brand new, defective (in the same way) pumps, but rather maybe your 40+ yr old gauge is not accurate???

Buying an airplane without seeing it??

You guys getting pre buy inspections, don't think that will eliminate surprises. There's a guy on the Piper Forum right now that thought he got a thorough pre buy inspection. His plane has been in the shop for over a month now getting new wing and stabilator skins and is $thousands and...

Buying an airplane without seeing it??

Yes, I agree, I don't recommend doing it the way I did either. I'm lucky in life, married way up, and I just didn't see this not working out. Don't try this at home.

Buying an airplane without seeing it??

I bought mine when I was a student pilot with 25 hrs. I couldn't go get mine and I didn't fly to NJ to see it 1st. The owner owned it less than 2 yrs but bought it from his buddy who owned it for a few decades. I talked to the previous owner for a few hrs before I had the owner deliver it to NC...

Why so little news out of S&F?

I had a great time. I arrived Thursday morning and approached Lake Parker from the NE. I saw 3 planes orbiting the lake and planned to fall in since it was my 1st time. All of the sudden ground control says "Cherokee over NE Lk Parker, rock your wings". Then he says follow I4. So there I go...

    Airplane crunched in South Dakota

Let's see. Snow too deep for tires. No ski's. Taking off downwind. Improper soft field procedure. Inability to stay on "runway". Since they walked away, I'll call it a comedy of errors.

    New Traffic Pattern Advisory Circular

What did I miss? The text says fly over midfield at pattern altitude but the diagram shows flying midfield at 500' above pattern, then do a descending turn to enter the 45 degree entry, arriving at pattern altitude by the time you enter the downwind. Which is correct? Seems to me flying 500'...
