Hey Guys,

I know a few of you are still flying behind Blue Mountain Avionics EFIS systems. I too have one of the orphaned systems in my aircraft. Up until recently, Greg has been keeping the User Discussion group going on his website. We'll it finally went away and now there's no dedicated site for us to discuss issues and/or solutions with other users of the equipment. I decided to create a Yahoo! Group dedicated to the BMA equipment. If you would like to join, it can be found at...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BMA_Users/

Again, this has no connection to Greg or the ex- BMA company, just a site for Users to talk to Users.

Flying with an EFIS/Lite Plus and it's working really nicely.

A very sad chapter in aviation. A superior product, superior engineering, designed by a very smart guy, that had no business sense at all.

Heard the exact same thing from guys who worked for him. Said he was brilliant but he couldn't accept any criticism when it came to anything. Therefore some of the early products went out with software flaws. My panel is all BMA but I sure wouldn't recommend it.

I had serial number 6 of the first Gen, gold box in a RV9a. Beautiful screen, terrain detail 10 years ago that is still unmatched by today's standards, but you had to be a computer programmer to run it. Made Dynon look like a Commodore 64 by comparison. I loved it, until it came to customer service. It sucked at BM.

Greg had the opportunity to sell the company, and the technology to several companies, but refused. He paid the price for not recognizing his failings as a poor business man. As an inventor and IT guy he is second to none.

I'm still flying with a BMA EFIS/AP. Greg got me a fix when my unit displayed everything shifted 17 degrees, that was a couple of years ago and haven't heard from him since. He was then selling remote systems to monitor the environment in marijuana grow houses.

Greetings, brand new here. I have an RV 8 that I am finishing and the engine monitoring for the Blue Mountain will not register in the display. Any idea of where I can get some help?

Dear all

I Have got a used Blue Mountain EFIS G3 - but the altitude calibration is some 200 feet off - how can I find the values for recalibration to the long calibration-table?
All help is very appreciated.

Pilot from Denmark, flying an old Stinson YM1939 HW75 (Baby Stinson)

I had a BMA G3. Best suggestion I can offer is replacement with one of the many good currently available options.

thx for the suggestion. Is there no chance for calibrating the altimeter? in a easy way...

Yes I managed to calibrate my EFIS in the matter of altitude up to 4000 feet.
Please see you PM and mail me - then I will do my best to explain.

I had a chance to fly with him. His shop was just a few miles from our N GA home, and he needed to get somewhere to troubleshoot his jet.

Let me just add he was a conspiracy theorist, before being a conspiracy theorist was cool.

Greg was an occasional member of our EAA chapter. At the time, he ran his software on a laptop and used to bum rides with various chapter members to test his updates while sitting in the right seat.

And then he moved to TN and took his products to market (prematurely).

Bright guy, but released a number of products before they were ready, and then moved into n to develop the next product. None of BMA’s products ever seemed to reach a mature state.

Been running on all BMA for over 15 years. Can’t believe they’re still working (barely) with no software updates. When they die I’ll put a G5 and an EDM monitor in their place.

Ouch, can’t catch a break. First the company folds then yahoo groups gets shut down too.

Hi Team! I just got a velocity with a BMA system... No issues with the system right now but I am trying to install a new (old but never installed) BMA auto pilot. The issue is that the cable from the AP control box to the servos is not complete in that on the AP control box side I have a serial 9 pin connector and the other side of the cable is bare wires. The servos have a 14 pin military connector... So the issue is I need a pin out for the servos to make it work. Anyone have this issue or ideas to get the pin-out for the servos?

Hi folks.. I know this thread is like two years old, but I just thought I'd try and see.

I'm looking at buying an airplane with a couple BMA EFIS's onboard. The screens work, but they have some damage from frost or mold or who knows. If anyone sees this, I'd love to hear your opinion. I mean, besides the obvious replacement option.
Thank you!

To be honest your typical flight simulator back from 2000s already offered superior map and terrain technology than all current top of the line EFIS systems.
Ironically, your typical synthetic vision display is using exactly the same type of pre cooked height map data (with some 2d FAA airport and obstacle data overlayed on top ) that all of these simulators and games use and there is nothing “special” or advanced about any of it.

If it were me, if everything else on the plane was good to go, I'd offer a price with replacement in mind and then yank those BMA paperweights and replace with current glass of your choice.

Yup.
This plan works even if one needs a period of financial recovery after purchase and prior to avionics upgrade.
In the meantime I wouldn't trust the BMA in IMC.
